I think we should leave out the Rovers as they came in SKD's and then for the 2000 also most parts were imported and only assembled in India by Standard car company.

But since we have touched on this, the rover 2000 was launched in 1985 with a 2.5-litre Standard diesel(no turbo) and 2-litre petrol engine. Electric windows and A/C was provided which was luxury at that time.

I think the first car with a Digital Odo was the Lancer.
Correct me if I am wrong, but weren't the Lancer and WagonR launched at roughly the same time?

To my knowledge, the Standard 2000 came in only one version, the 2-litre Petrol engine. There was no diesel engine offering as OE.

I also believe it was the first car to sport 'Power Steering' in India.

It could also be the first (or only) car in India that had a stopwatch in the center console as part of original equipment.

The first car to sport a diesel engine will have to be the HM Ambassador with the trekker engine. This was launched way before the Tata passengers cars came into existence.

Correct. However, if I remember correctly, the Tata 1210 SE (or something similar) engine was a direct fit in the Standard 2000 engine bay. Which made it quite popular in TN.

dadu, while the Rover 2000 was manufactured by Standard Motors, the Montego was sold by Sipani Motors. Not sure if Sipani manufactured it or simply assembled it. Stampro definitely manufactured the 2000.

dadu, the Standard 2000 was definitely a car manufactured in India, not just assembled (by erstwhile STAMPRO).

As far as I remember, it was not launched with a diesel engine as OE : only the petrol-engined version was available when launched.

First Turbodiesel was Montego

, this was in 1994. And it was with a Rover DI Turbo engine (at a time when DI Turbos were still meant only for the more expensive luxury cars)

The TATA Sierra Turbo (an IDI Turbo) came in 1997 only.

The Rover Montego does not fall under the category of "Imports", since it was assembled in India, so it can be considered here .
