From the pics the car Looks very simple and Just OK. I wish they had made the car more futuristic. For a 10lac worth Car its very simple looking and very similar to the current Boring looking COROLLA. Customers paying 10lac for a car accept prestige value (SNOB VALUE) along with all the Goodies / Quality / Feature. Even though its high on goodies when compared to the CIVIC, it doesn't look RICH and doesn't inspire character.

CIVIC is the Segment leader and will continue to lead the Segment.

Altis has edges over the other competitors

After going throgh this thread I can definetely say the Altis has and will create a bzz in the segment,

If I were looking at bying the Civic or even the Skoda Lara I wold have to rethink looking at that list of options available in the base altis model,

I'm happy finally we are being offered these goodies on Indian roads and I hope the car makers keep lanching more models with loaded goodies,

I'm now waiting eagerly for one of the members to test the Altis and a proper comparison with the civic and the other segment cars,

Cheers to Toyota for upping the ante !!!!!!

The new Corolla looks much better than the earlier version. I hope it sells. Difficult, given Toyota's attitude towards the Indian auto market.

Wait till you see the car in person.. I loved it in the preview and I am eagerly waiting to see the car on road, also waiting for my test drive on 8th Sept.

The only thing I also don't like is the wood finish interiors. Some soprty color of grey or brown would have looked better. Otherwise simply great.

A very good attempt from Toyota. Entry Level at 10L+ ex-showroom and has most of the features of high-end Civic and Jetta.. isn't this what an average car buyer looks at to save his 3-4Lacs of money and still enjoy all the value added features?

There are clearly distinct buyers in Indian market
- People aspiring for looks, futuristic etc.. -- Civic is the way to go.
- Value for money, features loaded in entry level -- Toyota Altis is here.
I do not want to debate on the performance here, this will again start the Civic Vs. Corolla war.

From the above it seems V/W Jetta should rethink on the price they are demanding.

Regards

that innova facelift looks ugly except the new clear lens lamps. and alloy wheels look same as old ones. and that bumper looks out of place. isnt it?

Toyoto has got the pricing spot on. The car looks classy. At the end of the day the nerve centre is the avg and I beleive Toyota has a winner in its hand. Interesting battle on our hands. Since the Altis is slightly more fuel efficient than the Civic its gonna be tough for Honda. The Altis has a lot going for it including the fact that it is a new car.

This is the mother of all battles as it is the case in all the major car markets around the world.

Scoop!!! Toyota Corolla-2009...road testing

I was holidaying near Kushalnagar (Coorg) last week. While passing by Hunsur which is 30 KM from Mysore on a Other Major Road, Hunsur to Nagarhole national park, i spotted a big new car on a petrol pump. i went past then realised that it is Toyota Corolla -2008 and then stopped and took my car inside. it was re-fuelling (extremely shoddy pump to take fuel, anyway). I snapped some pics....all logos hidden but a Toyota is always visible....the driver came out and didn't like my lapping up snaps like this....i asked to confirm and he did confirmed.....this is Toyota Corolla-2008.
