hehe I am sure it was TOI who chose EU plates.

This behaviour is aligned with TOI mentality.

@ GTO

Why EU number plates? Audi has an online picture library from where their agency buys the picture. Touching up (to put Indian Number Plates erc) for that resolution size will cost a bomb. But...I guess, if the full page advertisement can justify its cost (I seriously have my doubts) then touching up for an Indian number plate will surely do.

NB: This R8 demands a whole set of tooling (including specialized vehicle lift). I am told that not even a single workshop is fully equipped to handle the R8.

Cost a bomb? Our own photoshop experts could do a 99% perfect job in 10 minutes. Alternatively, if you don't want to load up Indian numberplates, simply blank out the Euro plate. The R8 ad simply didn't leave a feeling of being locally available with an international number.

Well, if you look at the VW jetta movie ad. The Jetta has an MH number in place of the UK number plate

I personally think just Audi R8 written on the plates would work best.

But this would have been a marketing strategy to leave the euro plates to give an indication that it is a direct import and manufactured at their german plant. The "Fully" imported factor is a big plus for some buyers.

If only they have switched on the headlights LEDs in the front page shot, it would have looked splendid !

Nonetheless a brillllliant ad, defiantly one of my favorite launch promos.

That too! Better than Euro plates (atleast) in getting the message across.

Not mine. I am very particular about number plate size & style.

Now that's what I am talking about! Look at this ad and compare it to the Euro ad....you'd think they hadn't bothered at all. An R8 with an Indian numberplate immediately leaves a feeling of being "locally accessible" and "locally available". Something that's already here rather than the block of going through cumbersome import procedures. This is all the more important to a brand like Audi which is rarely cross-shopped with Merc & BMW in India. They hardly have a presence!

It's all about the state of mind that an ad leaves you with. And if you are spending 15 - 20 lakhs on a cover ad, better do a good job of it. Localisation is the least that comes to mind. Evidently the smaller things count.

Blame that on the dealerships, most cars keep the plates that are fitted at the time of delivery. These plates are not laminated plastic so the letters are exposed and hence fall out of place in due time.
Luxury cars showrooms give laminated ones that last. Millennium Toyota showroom in mumbai have an excellent font used besides that most others are crap.
I for one never keep the dealer plates on, try and maintain the same font on all my cars. It's the thinnest font allowed and is the best looking to my taste and also god for bid if i ever have to make a run for it my number is not blaring

Trust me GTO. An inhouse paintshop job will not do.

- EU number plate is surely an oversight.
- Just a handful of professional service providers a available in the country to get this modification done. This involves costs+time. And usually the adverts are released at the 11th hour.

I Guess...the Audi marketeers simply ran out of time!

The audi R8 launch

So it was the the 7th of November and i was invited to the launch of the audi r8 at the german embassy here in New Delhi. The launch was supposed to start at 9 and me and 3 of my friends(out of which one is accordmasters) reached around quarter to 9 everything was well done up.It started at 9 30 wit malaika arora comming on stage and givin an introduction and they had some dances and a small clipping of audi and then we were escorted to another area which was behind curtains there they showed us the initial audi racing car which was the silver arrow(sorry no pics of that). it was a lovely silver car wit a rear mounted huge engine. Then came in the Le Mans audi which was driven into the area and the sound was jus amazing we initially thought that the sounds were comin from speakers but as the car came and we realised the sound was comin from the cars V10 diesel engine.this was the first diesel car to win the le mans.So we saw that car it was beautiful and it was scratched because i think your not allowed to fix the scratches. After that the man who designed the car came and he compared the car to a women and finally it was time for what everyone was waiting for.It rolled up not to fast but you could still hear the engine bursting with power.it was an amazing site it was white in colour with carbon fiber on the sides and sitting inside was no other than sanjay dutt. I think they mentioned something about him already buying the car in white and someone else has told me to so bhpians in mumbai please stay on the lookout.it was an amazing car the interiors were lovely but you wernt allowed to even touch it which kind of pissed us all off and suddenly one of my friends running saying that on the other side there is a black one you could actually sit in which was just amazing we sat inside this was a manual one with black interiors and no carbon fiber sadly but it had chrome rims.so we sat in the car and it felt like heaven. We clicked some pictures of it and with and went on to have dinner after that when were leavin we went to the other side and found another silver r8 standing this time we dint sit in it but did observe its beauty.while leavin there was another black one standing....it was just amazing four r8s at one place.and while leavin outside there ver line ups of audis outside q7s a6 a8 w12 and a4s there were also cars like the rolls royce phantom and a bmw 6 series. We also got a token while leaving a solid silver scaled down version of the r8...the experience was just amazing
this is the first time im writing on this site hope you enjoyed it

Just for those who are interested - all these 8 R8s are parked in the Audi Showroom Delhi alongwith a fairly large number (forgotten how many) of the longwheel base A8s. So, I'm guessing its worth a visit!

Read yesterday's Deccan Herald? I totally lost it. People who dont know anything about cars shouldnt bother with them. I dont try to write about ICE, do I?

"The R8 can reach it's maximum speed of 304km/h in just 4.86 seconds".

Where is a Veyron when you need one?
