Mod Note : Team-BHP's Official Hyundai Elantra review has been released at this link. Please continue the discussion over on the new thread. Thanks

All the news articles i have read had hinted at a July 08 launch. Its almost end of July and no launch seems imminent. Any news, views, scoops??

BTW it is availaible in 1.6 and 2.0 Petrol and 1.6 Diesel engines worldwide.

@MODS - Can we have this as the official track-the-avante-launch thread? I coudn't find anything similar

Elito

There are no fixed dates for the launch of Elantra.
Hyundai has been talking about the launch of i30 i.e. is hatch version of Elantra.

But there is not any sight available of either Elantra or i30.

The 1.6 pertrol in Uk has bore X stroke dimensions of 77 X 85.4mm, develops 122 bhp.

The 1.6 diesel in UK has bore X stroke dimensions of 77.2 X 84.5mm and develops 113 bhp.

IMO, both these 1.6 can help the Elantra gain market share from Toyota Hyundai. What Hyundai has is diesel engine and this is what both Toyota and Honda lack. Toyota can still come up with diesel, but not Honda, atleast not now, as they are not having anything smaller than 2.2 diesel.

If i am not wrong, the previous version CRDI of Elantra was 2 litres.

Yes correct and in UK, a 1991cc diesel is still available.
The specifications of that diesel are:
Bore X Stroke: 83.0mm X 92.0mm.
Power: 138bhp.

I think Hyundai is thinking of i30 sedan version instead of launching the Avante. Cos that could be the only reason for the delay. The Avante was displayed in the Auto Expo. I feel it would be better to get a i30 sedan.

I think those figures are for the 2.0 petrol engine. Please recheck

No, I am sure they are for the 2.0 CRDi diesel engine. But still I will be checking and will edit or post up a new reply for this.

EDIT:
I checked the official Hyundia UK website for i30. Here there is mention of 2.0 CRDi.
The 2.0 crdi is available in UK.
The 2.0 petrol is available in US.

Below is the screen shot from US website.

Elantra CRDi was a stonker of an engine. I just wish they beautify the exterior and interior and release with the same engine, it would sell quite reasonably well.

Yes it was a good engine.

The 3-cylinder engine offered in Hyundai Accent CRDi was on cylinder cut off from this fantastic motor. And we all know about the 3-cylinder diesel Accent!

But now this motor is mostly from a somewhat old generation. It was the best engine from Hyundai of the older generation Common rail technology.

With some more engineering and upgrading the common rail tech., this engine can make the Elantra brand become top contender again. The new elantra with this engine can be a shocker to Civic or Corolla. The new Elantra that is now in US is better looking if we ignore the " Flame-surfacing ". This car can be on top of its segment. Also if 1.6 petrol and diesel are made available, it would be just great for the Indian customer as they will now have a diesel in that segment apart from Magnum and Skoda.

Oct. 2008 launch month. My friend had been to Hyundai Plaza. Hyundai Officials from Korea were there in the showroom. My friend asked them about the avante launch, they said in the month of Oct 2008.

That's nice.

Whatever engine options Hyundai may offer, they should include the Verna diesel engine (1.5?) as well. It would make a good diesel car for back-benchers who have a chauffeur, and do not need all the horsepower of bigger displacement. The torque will be more than adequate.

One magazine is claiming that new elantra will have the same 2000cc engine from previous elantra.

IMO, they should also bring the 2.0 petrol engine and 2.0 diesel plus the 1.6 diesel. They will rule the segment.
