Read this story in Times Of India a couple of days ago.

Fiat and Tata Alliance approached Suzuki some time ago for the joint facality, but at that point of time, Suzuki denied and said they will have individual for producing this engine.

IMO, this was because Suzuki already paid for the license.

I dont think suzuki already having paid for the license made any difference here. Tata/Fiat were not asking for any licensing fees.

Maybe they felt the quality might be compromised? Maruti QC is , after all, much more stringent than Tata.

That must be one of the reasons. Furthermore given the state of affairs at Fiat India, suzuki must have thought it better to be alone than take part in a tied three legged race.
