Anyway, its a big acheivement for students. Who knows where the next G.D.Naidu or TATA is going to come from!!!

This khabrein.info correspondent seems not to know what he is talking. Why drag auto companies into it by saying those who have loads of cash and resources couldnt do it. I think he hasnt seen the car itself. A 97 cc bike itself is going to be a thing of past and the correspondent gushes as if the car is salvation for the oil crisis.

Yes...its true.... this team is from R V College of Engineering. Its a single seater three wheeled vehicle with a 110cc engine powering the rear single wheel. They make these models and race it against other universities worldwide under the SAE Super-mileage program.

The wheels are spoked-bicycle wheels and the body is aerodynamically shaped (reverse wedge design) to reduce drag. The driver seating is more of the F1 types.

totally agree, this is a really old news. I think it was on some other site too. The point is you can fit a motor to a rickshaw and say it has same mileage. The point is how practical are these solutions, another proof most media who capture these news have least knowledge of car technology etc.

This is a special purpose vehicle meant to demonstrate what is achievable, but would not be a practical daily commute.

In case you are interested, stock cars with narrow tyres inflated to high pressure and driven for maximise economy, achieve 2 to 5 times the normal "Average" in special rallies. An MUL 800/Alto which normally gives 16+ km/l achieves 25+ with proper driving habits on the highway. The same vehicle when driven in such rallies achieves 50-70 km/l easily. A few driving techniques adopted for economy are

1. Narrow tyres with high pressure to reduce road friction.
2. Very gradual acceleration
3. Coast with engine off when possible
4. Minimal use of breaks
5. Lean mixture (in carburetor days) or ECU remap to achieve the same purpose
