Audi is set to achieve the highest sales growth in India. The German car manufacturer may achieve top sales figures for in 2008 as it has marked an increase of sales growth of 163 percent in first seven months of the current calendar year. It has sold 595 cars from Jan 2008 till July 2008. July has been one of the most successful months where it marked a growth of 525 percent by selling 125 units against 25 units in the same month last year.

"True to our philosophy of 'Vorsprung durch Technik', the latest sales figures show that we have made an impressive progress in order to achieve our ambitious goal," commented Audi India Managing Director Benoit Tiers. " We will continue to focus on the customer-orientated products for the Indian market. In coming months, the customers can expect new sophisticated and sporty luxury models.“ The Audi model range is available in India at present in seven dealerships across the country: in Delhi, Gurgaon, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore and Hyderabad. New facilities are being built in Ahmadabad, Ludhiana, Chennai and Cochin."

Audi currently has a broad product range in the Indian car market with its models, Audi A4, Audi A6, Audi A8, Audi Q7 and Audi TT. The new sedan Audi A4 launched in July also contributed to significant sales growth in the past month.

Audi AG marks a strong presence in the Indian car market with its strong product portfolio. It manufactures its A6 at the Aurangabad plant in India and shares facility with its group company, Skoda.

Such small numbers make amazing growth figures. Lets get real and look at actual numbers

Absolutely! I agree with ajmat. Eg. if a company sells 100 cars, its not difficult to sell 163 the next year. But consider a company selling 200000 cars. Its definitely more difficult to sell 326000 cars the next year, compared to the former. In this example, you have to consider population as constant. Guess this makes sense.

I sold only 1 car in the last year and 10 in the current year. Does this 1000% growth make me a super-hero?

Smart statements by Audi's PR department, but they are gonna have to do better than this. How about adding another line : Our sales aren't even a patch on that of Benz & BMW who have sold 1,600+ cars each in the same period.

Audi should spend more time in designing their cars to look appealing instead of soap boxes rather than waste constructive time on seedy P.R. such as this. Its only when they spell out the figures, does one actually read between the lines. Bah!!

Gentlemen !!! Let Audi get it's bearings - the actual results of who is the KING of the segment will appear in another 15 to 24 months.

Mercedez is already feeling the heat, going by the advertisements in todays HT. Even I have an invitation to come & see their "NEW C Class", with an exchange offer thown in. They are really pushing the E-Class, guess the BMW 5's have taken the wind out of the sails for Merc.

Anyways, may the best one win !! :D

Cheers

Audi is just desperate for acclaim it seems, baseless sales talk to lure customers.

The a4 has generated good sales for the company while the a6 is barely in the race with the e and 5. They probably take the volvo s80 as their competition.

If audi has to succeed here they need to price below bmw and mbil.

The A6 was in local production much before the BMW's yet BMW have stolen a good lead. The C is holding its own. the E is singing its swansong but the 5 gets replaced a year later so things will get interesting. Mercedes may not be too concerned with the volumes game as the S class gives it good margins to compensate

news from an insider:-the audi showroom in pune were given target of selling atleast 2 cars per month, but in the last month (july) they had 20 bookings!! well thats simply great, the owners (pashankar and mohite -patil) dont have to worry for 10 months now:)

NOTE + OT:- Audi Pune is owned by 25% pashankar auto and 75% Mohite-Patil from Akluj.

Well, just an addition here as a german student "Vorsprung durch Technik" mean advancement through technology.
