Re: Best car for our Politicians. What do you think?

This thread becomes relevant due to recent happens at UP where the CM allows MLA to buy car worth Rs.20 lakhs out of their MLA local area fund.
This is scarilege.

Quoted from HT-

Quote:
Barely 10 days after completing 100 days in office, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday opened a goody bag for MLAs, entitling them to purchase four-wheelers worth up to Rs. 20 lakh from their local area development fund.

If all 402 MLAs take up on the offer of the youngest CM of India’s most populous and politically crucial state, the largesse will potentially cost the exchequer Rs. 80 crore.
Also an interesting read -
Why the UP MLA needs a Rs.20 lakh car - Firstpost- Why the UP MLA needs a Rs 20 lakh car | Firstpost

Look at our Didi (Mamata), she is seen driven around in a old original Zen. Isn't that enough?

The maximum value car IMO, that an elected rep can use is upto Rs.5 lakhs (with DGS&D rates bigger cars can be acquired at this price)

If at all they are honest, hardworking, nation lover, looking at tax payers money not going into waste, loves INDIAN product then TATA NANO is the best for them. But all these points I said at present stage are not found in any of our netas from topmost neta of the nation to a corporator level. These netas must be forced to use the cars that are totally made in INDIA instead of cars with german, italian, korean, japanese technology. When ever they sit in these cars they must sing "MERA BHARAT MAHAAN".

And they should be made to namaskaram and buskeys to evetyone they meet, for the rest of their lives. They should only be given self drive Ambassadors or Nanos as you say. And about 50 to 60 litres of petrol per month. More than that, they have to pay for.
Better still, they should be forced to take public transport and things like Bombay trains 4 days a week.

Re: Best car for our Politicians. What do you think?

This thread proves how loved our politicians are. Hoping their image will change someday and we ourselves will make way for them when we see them approaching from our RVMs.

But right now if you ask my opinion ? They should use the public transport and face the music that a common man hears everyday. They might improve it instantly to travel in comfort, and the common man would also benefit from it.

Re: Best car for our Politicians. What do you think?

Hi everybody
As Rover had posted in 2005 the best is a bicycle for them.
It may be impractical in big cities but they could do it smaller towns and villages.
Interestingly Gordon Brown,at the time he was the prime minister in waiting, used to go to work on a bicycle. Can you imagine Rahul Gandhi doing that?
Regards

Completely agree Iqbal Ji!

All of them must be given Tata Nanos. And all of them should be white with the India flag on it, like the one Jay Leno bought himself. Give them the top-end, that's cool.

And the president must ride in a Tata Manza.

*If they ride in these luxury cars, they won't know what horrible roads they've left us with. Their cars will just iron out most of the horrible roads. Their drivers probably won't go in that direction.

Or the best thing to do is hire a Volvo B7R that will go and pick them up at assigned stops.

Whatever is the most unsafe form of transport available, thats what the politicians should be made to drive around in. And let them drive it themselves, without a driver. Why put a poor man's life at risk?

Re: Best car for our Politicians. What do you think?

I would put them all in Bajaj Auto-rickshaws! I don't see them behaving better than the auto drivers, neither do I see them worth driving anything more than an "auto"!

Re: Best car for our Politicians. What do you think?

They all need to set an example by travelling in a Reva for the City and a Nano for outside the City. In Europe, the MPs travel on Public transport, they should be forced to use the Public transport. I am sure we would get a world class system in a couple of months, at least on the routes they ply!! If security is a concern, the policing should be improved and emphasis on intelligence gathering, rather than having convoys and surrounding themselves with security forces.

I feel our Netas dont deserve a Volvo, they should be forced to use the ST buses esp those long distance ones which rattle on the smooth road surface too.

The best travel option to be made available to the politico's should be public transport - Bus, train, rickshaws etc and they should be reimbursed the travel expenses only at the end of the month when they submit the proof of travel.

Re: Best car for our Politicians. What do you think?

I will not say that they need to use public transport at this moment. Cos we have given so much respect and leverage !! that they are already in high... So coming down from imported cars to public transport is not possible.
My suggestion would be ALTO, Swift, Indica, Vista, Amby... Max Bolero....
2-7Laks budget cars, thats all...not a official 20 Laks car...

Actually give them TVS50.
You know the moped with the pedal start kind.
With fuel price's that would be a boon on the government finance and also on them....GO PEDAL POWER

Just imagined how would it look like when our politicians ride in this one - possibly with a driver?!? And how would their Security guards accompany if the VIP itself has only the TVS XL?

On a serious note, the politicians still can be given our traditional HM Abmassador (may be with added safety features) as their official fleet. Otherwise, there could be a choice of vehicles from anything "Made in India" as they are the representatives of our Country & nothing wrong if they support our Indian Car Manufacturers. If at all they would like an upgrade, they can opt for one on their personal expense (and not on tax-payer's money).

Re: Best car for our Politicians. What do you think?

Since the politicians are the leaders of the masses and they represent them - and it is well known that the bullock carts are mass people mover in India - it is conclusive that politicians should travel around in the bullock carts.

And for name sake purpose call it "Ox-Ford" (this one is taken from the movie Gandhi

Re: Best car for our Politicians. What do you think?

There should be a standardisation of kind of vehicle that the MPs and the MLAs should be entitled with.
Based on safety, practicality, economy and ofcourse budget it should be a mandatory norm across the country.

Best example as mentioned by some of the people above can set by using Made in India vehicle.
