I didnt know that KA was approaching Tata. What i learnt is that they may expand the plant in uttarakand and may also start up their pune plant. The one plant in Dharwad is for buses.
The ports are being well utilised by the mines but still KA should not miss out on trying to get the Nano

This is the latest problem for WB govt. If this continues, then Tata is sure to exit out of WB.

This is taken from today's TOI:

Trinamool Cong men attack Nano workers

Singur: The uneasy calm in Singur partially blew apart on Wednesday when a bunch of Trinamool Congress supporters roughed up a few workers on way to the Tata Motors’ small-car factory site. Some hours later, a group of men carrying Trinamool flags tried to storm the factory gate, but was stopped in the nick of time by party leaders.
The group of nearly 30 workers, heckled and threatened by Trinamool supporters, decided not to return to the factory till normalcy returned. The Trinamool denied its hand in the attack and accused the CPM and the West Bengal government of defaming its peaceful dharna. The incident sent executives into a huddle and workers burrowing deep for cover. They have also rattled Trinamool leader Mamata Banerjee as she realised how brittle her assurance of a peaceful agitation was. With patience running thin among party workers and no solution in sight, Banerjee is realising that a single flashpoint could turn her satyagraha into a free-for-all she would have little control over. With Naxalites on the Krishi Jami Raksha Committee platform, there is no wriggling out of the spot either.
The first incident happened around 8 am when a group of workers from Bihar were on their way to the Nano plant on a van. “We were 3 km from the site, when a group of Trinamool supporters came and began abusing us. When we asked them to mind their business, a fracas broke out. They punched a fellow worker in the stomach and slapped me in the face. We also retaliated,” said Rakesh Singh, a worker.
He claimed the supporters had threatened them with dire consequence if they continued to work at the factory site.

Hey you seem to be influential or well connected since you seem to guarantee the situation in TN. Tatas got into a mess with their Titanium project in TN in an exactly similiar situation. Only reason it did not receive much attention in the press is because it is not a high profile project like 'Nano'. If what you say about TN is true then you got work on hand. You need to help Tatas out of the mess with TN Govt. and the local politicians.

APs record is not very great going by car companies. VW wanted to set up a plant in AP and it got bogged into bribery scandals. VW took refuge in another state. Proton car project on which there was talk for long time in Vizag never happened. Dont get me wrong. I am not against any state, but these incidents will surely drive away prospective car makers. We need to show all our disagreement with the governments by the way we vote and express our reasons for in public forums. That is the only right and legal way.

Actually, when I mentioned the titanium thing in TN, using it as an example of how far apart government and people can be, I did not remember that it was a Tata project.

Tata's Plan B?

Today in Economic Times - the first Nanos may roll out of their plant in Uttarakhand, from where they roll out in excess of 250,000 ACEs every year:

First Nanos from Uttarakhand?-India Business-Business-The Times of India

So that was their Plan B.

It was officials fronting for VW who pocketed the money not Ap govt officials. VW had to cut a sorry figure, return the money and to save face set up elsewhere. I wouldn't know if the nexus ran deeper but this is what the media reported

If WB govt cannot take leadership to solve the problem, the least they can do is to provide cops and secutiy round the clock for the plant and workers. Cheaper than paying for 400 acres methinks.

There is only ONE problem that the state of WB faces - its something that goes by the name of Mamata Banerjee.

They have failed to tackle her or muzzle her or rein her in for the past so many decades.......

Sridhga, as has been rightly pointed out by DKG, it was middlemen representing VW in connivance with one of their senior executive ( whose name I am forgetting ) who are responsible for this mess and not AP govt.

As for the Proton, it is not AP govt.'s fault again because Proton shelved their India plans altogether for some reason. So question of AP doesn't arise.

This article suggests an excellent solution to this problem : Treat the farmer as a joint-entrepreneur

Treat farmers as partners. Give them a share in profits. That will ensure that production is always out of trouble form local issues (since any downtime will hurt their own pockets).

This model works very well in Pune, where Framers themself own an SEZ. Production and IT/BPO companies work out of that SEZ.

But the biggest factor here is MB...she will not allow to do this.

Maharastra is another state or rather I can say as home state for Tata as most of their business (automobile related) is concentrated in and around Pune. The case is different here.

Thank you both pgsagar and DKG for sharing the info.

She might be doing things for her own benefit.

But her basic point is true. Farmers loose their land and are not compensated as per their expectations.

Biggest issue is with govt playing "broker".

With the model adopted in Pune, govt was nowhere in picture. It was directly farmers dealing with businesses.

What about Jamshedpur?
That's known as Tata city. The whole city seemed like it was run by Tatas. Yes, there's no proper port option available in this case.
