Its rather Swift which is the clear winner.
1)Proven engine from Fiat tuned for better performance than Indica
2)Great styling
3)Leagues ahead in terms of handling
4)And tata is no match for maruti's service
5)Better Interiors
6)Better Image
7)Better Equipment
8)Better Resale
9)Positive Gearshifts
10)And jap reliability that tata can just dream of

Palio Build like a Tank - True

Recently I saw a Palio which was hit by a train in Bangalore , yes you read it right hit by a train. Still the driver and co passenger survived. The Build quality of Palio that saved its occupants.

Truly a testimony about the strength of Palio's body shell, I bet no other Car in its class can match it.

Only the difference of shell weight. tata's has higher torque@lower rpm though.
2)Great styling
Subjective.
3)Leagues ahead in terms of handling
On stock tyres, not much difference
4)And tata is no match for maruti's service
I agree.
5)Better Interiors
Point taken

6)Better Image
Skoda Fabia will have even better image

7)Better Equipment
Discussed earlier. Both are near equal here.
8)Better Resale
Generic for maruti.
9)Positive Gearshifts
A few degrees less for tata.
10)And jap reliability that tata can just dream of
And how much percent the car is Jap?

So, swift may be a winner, but not a clear winner.

I think Indica Vista has the best implementation of the 1.3 JTD for city as well as highway
2)Great styling
This is totally subjective. I know some people who love it and some who loathe it completely
3)Leagues ahead in terms of handling
At the cost of ride quality. Again personal preference. I would want a decent riding car than a corner carver.
4)And tata is no match for maruti's service
Those days are long gone. Tata after sales service is really good now a days
5)Better Interiors
I find Vista's interiors better in terms of looks and quality both.
6)Better Image
I dont care if I am getting a better car
7)Better Equipment
HOW????
8)Better Resale
Again, I would buy what I love rather thinking of the person who would want to buy it from me.
9)Positive Gearshifts
Indica Vista's gearshift is as good if not better
10)And jap reliability that tata can just dream of
Whats so japanese about the Swift VDi. The engine is European and I for one know that Indica can take a lot more abuse than Swift ever can.
My comments in bold .

Fully agree with extreme_torque & greenhorn.

I find the interiors of Swift cramped. Instead, Vista is roomy and airy.

Swift is actually a Less car par car.

1.Its Body occupies much Road Width but offers less for Occupants

2. Trying to imitate Mini Cooper , Maruti has souped it up on dimensional aspects

3. Having large dimensions , ,Swift is actually Sluggish as is not as agile "as it shud have been"

4. Cramped cabin and Wagon like body shell prohibits Precision cornering and I have come to know of many Frontal-left-side crashes

5. Swift is only good for Highway Stretches where it offers You appreciable stability and Safety similar to Sedans

swift is best on curved roads , where it really shines. on highways and straight roads, i can more than keep up with my friends swift D, but a set of curved mountain roads really made the difference. he could go harder and faster through those curves than I ever could. Not sure about the vista's suspension setup, but doubt if it is as tuned for cornering as the swift

Vista offers a fantastic stability whilst going dead straight. Even at 145 I didnt feel like I was going too fast. I have done same speeds in a Swift (Petrol) on the same stretch of road, but I just didnt have the confidence of maintaining that speed. However as Greenhorn said, Swift really is a master of curves. Its almost as good as my old faithful M Zen in that area.
I am always of the opinion that taking a car to a particular speed & maintaining the same for a few kms is a challenge by itself.

Its simple:
If its for just the driver or a family of 2-4 its the swift
If its 5 you have no choice and hence Vista.

The Vista is really a passenger's paradise whereas the swift a drivers paradise.

I would beg to differ with you, if you say that Vista is a Passenger's Paradise only. I love driving that car & the kick that I get in 3rd gear is almost similar to what I used to experience in my Zen. Its simply superb.
I would like to reiterate your above statement as:
Swift - Driver's Ultimate Paradise, but passenger's nightmare
Vista - Driver's Paradise & a passengers ultimate paradise also.
This is of course in their respective class.

It has to be Fiat for me!!!

I think Fiat Palio is the better in the lot. Not going by any stats, just by the appeal it has.

I have had Palio (1.2 petrol) for over two years now and its amazingly reliable.

Guess why other car makers would prefer using Fiat's engine in their cars?? Ofcourse it has something which really matters!!

My vote, blinded foldedly goes to Fiat Palio MJD!!

Regards,
Abhishek

oh GOD!! why me.....

Going by the advice of majority in this forum, and my previous experience of owning an Indica, last month I went for a slightly used red VDI.(4 month old,6400 clicks in the ODO).I was very happy that I chose this. But now going by the change in attitude of majority I am confused. Now everyone is hailing vista qjet as the better one in this comparison. why guys...you did this to me
Cheers
