Hyundai’s new 800cc car on its way

Hyundai Motor India is developing a small car to compete in the Maruti dominated 800cc segment. The new car is expected to hit the Indian roads in another three to four years - that’s around 2012. Hope it’ll be worth the wait.

Interesting. Maruti added a cylinder to make the Alto engine a 1061cc WagonR engine. Could Hyundai do a reverse of that? Just a thought, thats all.

OT - I dont see whats wrong with that. Hes written something for his blog and wanted to share that information with everyone. Since he created the content I think he should be free to do what he wants with it.

2012??
Why so late? By that time, there'll be no M800 coming out from MSIL I guess (ok, wish!).
So, is this car coming out to stand as a competition to the Alto? Or will it have no competition? Nano?

Yeah...Even I think it is pretty late. By that time even Nano and Bajaj's new car will be on roads and would have made in roads into the small car segment. IMO, bringing 800cc at that time (2012) will be more of a disaster than anythng else...

How is that publicity for the blog ? It doesn't matter where he has his info - as long as he gives a link and is not phishing the visitors .. I think he has every right to do so ! Puff ! heights !

Obviously he has some info he wants to share , he has it on his blog too and he is giving you a link to that ... dont see whats wrong here !!!

But 2012 is really late IMHO. The way the small car market is moving along now ... you would have thought they would be ready to launch it in a year or two. Seems more like its a concept right now .. ?

The way the Indian economy is growing, how big is the market going to be for a 800cc car in 2012? I suspect that Hyundai may launch the Santro with a 800cc engine in 2012 .

Same opinion.

Felt the 1000cc to be tad underpowered and hence 800 should be so too.

3-4 years!! Man why so long !! Instead of this why dont they work on a replacement for a Accent or a facelift Santro.

The way oil prices are going up, I would suspect there will be a rather large market for a fuel-efficient car by then.

There could still be a huge market for an 800cc car as the alto still sells in large numbers. Fuel efficiency is still a very big guiding factor in making a vehicle buying decision.

They could always price the santro lower with a new engine or with the same engine.

Absolutely! I wonder why they didn't do it sooner. For the past 25 years the #1 selling car in India has always had an 800 cc engine. Wonder why nobody decided to copy that.

But it should clearly be cheaper and more fuel efficient than the Santro 1.1
Not just for the heck of it.

The way Hyundai is going i don't think they are serious about it. They are more concentrated on the higher end cars and also there is a rumour that the Santro will be discontinued.

Seems to be a long wait.
By that time, who knows we may have some more competitors in this 800cc segment from MM, Tata and may be others too.
