Hi Elito 11 , Any news about the pricing of both the versions. If not then please try finding out. If your source is from the regional off. then he might be able to give you an idea. BTW keep up the good work

Are you sure? I don't see any buzz around this i20 for India yet. Anyways, I'm also waiting for this i20 launch. If they do launch the 90bhp diesel and if the vehicle drives decently, I'm seriously looking towards it as an alternative to the Fiat Linea.

@opendro - Agree with you. All the hype and anxiety is surrounding the Linea launch and no mention of i20 anywhere so makes me wonder whether it is getting launched near new year?

As you said if it gets a 90bhp engine it will be serious alternate option to linea (As for the drive Hyundai cars always drive good-like Verna,Santro,i10 etc)

No buddy NOT fully sure. But then if you read this thread I have been saying this all along 'Hyundai wants only 2009 i20's in India'. This friend of mine has been telling me this for over 3 months now. He has not changed his statement even once. Also i read the same in a interview of some senior Hyundai Exec. So for the moment i would believe my source.

Just to add to what Elito says, India is also one of the most important markets for Hyundai. Santro and i10 were launched here first (or simultaneously with international launches). I guess Hyundai might want to do an encore with i20 as well. If priced sensibly (that I am doubtful) it can take Swift to the cleaners!

@joslicx

Yeah that's what I was saying too - if its launched before 15th Jan then the launch will be before its worldwide debut! I think sensible pricing will be the key - the i10 feels overpriced by Rs. 20k-30k overall, and I think we can expect similar from i20 - just over swift, and just under Fabia pricing. 5.8 lacs OTR for ABS/Airbags equipped Kappa 1.2? I would seriously consider one!

Cool catch

Nice catch there.. Aaaggghhh! The i20 looks good. With a bit more budget now [i'm forever increasing it..Damn] I'm torn between getting a Fabia 1.2 petrol [with 3yrs/50K kms prev maintenance warranty] now or wait for the i20. But I'm unsure if i20 will launch in Jan and I need a car by [atleast] the beginning of the 3rd week of Jan.

@ Mods: someone please watermark the photos ASAP else some other magazine or website folks may steal them to claim their own..

Ajay, these pics are from autocar forums , so no point watermarking them.
Further i think i20 is mostly coming in Jan. Only if Hyundai could put up a teaser in their website about i20 launch. i20 looks like a good buy as long as Hyundai prices it decently.

O.T. Isnt the Fabia offer for 3yrd maintenance package only till Dec end??

Yup Karan Fabia offer is till Dec end as per them(though due to the slowdown i think they will extend like Ford has done)

IMO i20 is the best looking Hatch to come on Indian roads so far(No offence to Vista,Swift,Santro,i10 and so on owners).

@Harry

Yes I've been following up all the first drive reports but unfortunately, unlike the one you've posted, most are criticizing the ride of the car without realising that the "first drive" cars provided to media are all display models with non-standard, low profile tires.

Here's a link to the proper road test first drive report of the 1.2 (with the correct wheels)-
Hyundai i20 1.2 Comfort - Road Test First Drive - Autocar.co.uk

The author's only complaints are lack of "poor" interior and lack of flair! I'm sure we can live with that!

Edit: It seems that the non-standard tires are actually the 16" rims which are going to come as standard in the top end style variant in the UK, with the 15" ones as standard for classic and comfort models - sorry for the goof up. Here's the link to that -

Karan,

You're right. The Fabia Preventive Maintenance offer is only till 31st of this month, by when the car should be 'Invoiced'. I'm hoping and praying someone might be able to post approx prices of the i20 petrol and diesel and the engine specs... The Fabia 1.2 offer is pretty good to miss, coupled with a considerable discount & freebies from a dealer here..

Folks,

Is the i20 getting ready for a mid of Jan [15th] launch in 2009? Can anyone who have inside contacts on Hyundai [or component suppliers to Hyundai] investigate and help us know, without affecting any individual's job or credibility?

I called my sales contact at Advaith today stating I need to cancel the amount I paid for the Getz 1.3 GLX and get a refund immediately, and he accepted that without any objection or sales pitch [he already committed to a full refund anytime; I had asked him to only give me receipts for my payments and not invoice the car yet]. Before closing the call, he did mention that he had understood from management discussions that the i20 is launching 'in around' 15th of January, and that both Petrol and Diesel are launching...

Again, taking this info with a pinch of salt... since he had also said earlier that i20 was launching in mid november this year, and it didn't.

But it also could be, since Hyundai have largely been very smart in India, and they would most likely plan to launch the i20 a good 2-4 months and get a lead before the Fiat Grande Punto [if] launches in India, sometime in May [rumoured].

Cheers... aK
