I am not sure about the positioning. Keeping it against i10 is not a nice idea. Ideal is between Alto and Wagon R.
Keep the Splash between Wagon R and Swift.

The new Alto should be slightly higher than present generation Alto. Not near the Swift.
I hope the package starts at Ex-showroom price of 3.2 for the base model.

Some more inputs from the net on A-Star

Maruti Suzuki will be launching its latest B-segment challenger, A-Star into the Indian market on 19th November. The A-Star with its small dimesions, cute and cheeky looks and a frugal next generation ‘K’ series engine is expected to a be a hit among the young buyers.
The car is expected to be priced in the Rs. 3-4 Lakh bracket and will also come with the safety features such as Air-Bags and ABS, even if as an optional extras. The global small Suzuki will be built exclusively in India for domestic as well as world consumption.
Maruti Suzuki expects to sell around 50,000 units of the A-Star in the first year itself, ambitious, but if priced correctly, like every other Maruti launched recently it will be a roaring success.

I was recently looking for a small car and had been to a couple of Hyundai and Maruti showrooms in Mumbai. I had narowed down my search between a Swift and an i10 / Santro. I dont like the Wagon R.
During the Swift test drive, when the topic verred towards Maruti's new launches, the guy told me A-Star would be in showrooms for public display by 20 / 21st (just before the start of the weekend). The car would be powered by a 1.0 l engine. It would smaller in dimensions than the present Wagon R. But would be in a similar price range - 3.5 to 4.5 lakhs. A lot of options would be made available including ABS, tubeless tires, climate control etc.
It would be targetted more towards the youth than a family car oriented image for the current Wagon R.

I would like the models to be priced somewhat like this:

A-Star LX (only AC) -- 2.99 L Ex showroom Delhi
A-Star LXi (HVAC+PS) -- 3.25 L Ex sowroom Delhi
A-Star VXi (HVAC+PS+Power windows) -- 3.6 L Ex showroom Delhi
A-Star ZXi (Climatecontrol + alloys and bla bla) -- 3.99 L Ex showroom Delhi
A-Star ZXi (With optional Airbags, ABS, Sunroof) -- 4.5 L Ex showroom Delhi

so what does zxi have if everything is optional add on. that means it goes more than swift zxi and also i10 asta model ? ? ? how true are these pricing. if the zxi is at 5 laks including airbags abs and sunroof ill think over it.

Maybe you can shift ABS, Airbags to ZXi and Sunroof+Bodykit+leather interiors (like the one shown in my avatar) to ZXi (O).

In the end, its all guessing and wishing. Lets see how close i actually am when the car gets launched.

I think that this range pretty well covers from high end Alto to mid range Swift. Wagon R will be the one to take the maximum hit and Maruti will try its best to avoid this move.
Also, IMO, ABS and airbags must be optional through out the range, strating from LX. Or atleast they can apply the Swift strategy here of giving ABS and Airbags as an option in VXi. I am sure there will be many customer who wont plonk money for alloy wheels, but will like to have ABS and Airbags. Or atleast ABS.

I think Maruti has said many times that they don't care if their cars compete against each another in same segment. As long as its a Maruti that sells, they have no problem. If they had any, they wouldn't have positioned Estilo nearly exactly at WagonR levels.

Eventhough A-Star is a global product and Maruti may like to keep it as a niche product, they will never make it superior in features than Swift which is a global hit. So, sunroof etc will not come with A-Star.
