Mileage - yup Maruti is famous for producing good mileage cars so A-star can be a winner here.
totally true! IMO, front end is weird and the rear window feels to small in pictures or at least it looks strange.

Need poll between A star, Vista, Palio, i10

We seriously need a poll now about which is value for money:
  • Maruti A star
  • Indica Vista 1.2L petrol
  • Fiat Palio Stile 1.2 petrol
  • Hyundai i10
Spark is already a segment below and thus not in the list.

Liked the Nissan Pixo - than this contraption from MSIL.
The Nissan has a squared out head lamps, a proper grille and the profiled front and rear bumpers look better.
The egg crate grille and the teat drop headlamps are on the A Star are a real nonstarter.
The Nissan though, has fixed glass for rear windows (for sale in other markets and pointing to the fact that this is more of a car with seating for two adults with the back seat left for the dogs or babies.)
It doesnt have that cool tacho from the A-Star

Perhaps they will bring newer models like 'B Star', 'C Star' later, like Hyundai's i-10, i-20, etc

Why would Estilo be not on that list? Isn't it in the same price range?

67BHP light weight.
Now only if it handles, it could be the return of the "Zen"

Hope the A-star comes with a rattle-free build and eradicates the dubious distinction in this regard earned by Maruti with the Swift....

For me, Nissan Pixo is too un-inspiring. Eventhough both cars are based on the same platform, the front end of Pixo is too plain.

Personally I wish they would have launched the Suzuki Cervo here in India. I think it is a better looking car and would have been a nicer car to own. I think the Cervo, exclusively available only in Japan sports an engine under 700cc but I am sure they would have managed to get the new engine that powers the A-Star into the Cervo. The rear seats of the A-Star seem cramped and claustrophobic - at least thankfully it is being made available here as a four door car rather than as a two door variant, which is the export variant. Imagine no roll down windows at the back...

After the success of the original Zen, the Estilo seemed a faux pas - hopefully Maruti's fortunes change with the A-Star.

Today afternoon i visited sagar Maruti showroom at Bannergatta road to see A-Star displayed there.

The look is definetly out of box thinking but the interiors, paint quality and switches are definetely a let down.

The rear space is nothing to write about, it is definetly cramped, the dashboard quality is also not of good quality and not a good design

There are no test drive vehicles to find the ride quality and the characteristics of engine, hopefully the new k engine delivers good performance.

not sure if this is a VFM for this quality. i am wondering how this car is a export model for maruti.

And, WagonR? It is in the same price range too. Wow! Fun to see MSIL products pitting against each other.

I was seeing one of the newspaper reports today that Maruti believes that A-star will not eat into sales of it other products. Wonder how with such overlapping products. Anyhow it is choice for the customer (and confusion too!)

I think the points like 3-cylinder, 4-cylinder, low end toruqe etc are fine. But Maruti knows that most would-be buyers for their cars care more for cost of ownership, fuel economy, cheap spares . And most even do not know what cylinders area about.

And I am sure because of this A-Star will still succeed and eat market share from other hatches including i-1o and Spark provided it really gives average in the range of 18-20.

By the way Spark's sudden demand was because of the hefty discount and free warranty for 2-3 years. I suppose they no more advertise it. In that case we can see market decline in coming months.

Why should the Spark be considered a lower segment?
In the above cars mentioned only the A-star has a 1000cc engine and the rest have 1200 cc engines.
The torque and power of a Spark which also has a 1000 cc engine is similar to the A-star.
The Spark has a slightly smaller width than the A-star.
Infact the Spark, WagonR, Estilo and A-star have very similar engine specs.
The i10, Vista etc are bigger.
