The other states should take this as an example and reduce their taxes.
And pay Rs40 for the Attebele toll?

DMK is known for such tactics. But, why not? We all were claiming for the state and central to reduce the taxes on fuel, right? Let this be a start

They have largely ignored people like us so far, but currently party men are knocking everyone's doors to check if they got free TV and are issuing tokens to those who have not. To everyone with ration cards, that is.

Re: Fuel Price Thread

In Cochin Petrol sets you back by 61.40 per litre and diesel by around 41 per litre. I'm not so sure about the LPG prices. These prices are not gonna go down anytime soon I guess. I just wished the governments reduced their taxes on fuel, especially in such trying times.

Re: Fuel Price Thread

With excise and sales tax, the cost of fuel is bumped up. Of course we pay the two for most things, but fuel invites a sales tax of 30%. That's like buying booze.
Personally I think people commuting <100 km per week should shift over to bicycles. Unfortunately, I have to commute 130 km per day so the bicycle I was using in Coimbatore is falling to rust.

Re: Fuel Price Thread

Have the prices gone up in B'lore too - both Shell and PSU?

It is just 61.40?! It has been 65.5 consistently in B'lore!

It is not very practical, is it? Considering traffic, distances, laptops, weather, pollution, cycling is unfortunately not an option.

In B'lore, towards Whitefield and ITPL, work is on to have wide, cemented footpaths which I'm guessing are for bicycles.

Re: Fuel Price Thread

Fuel prices are again in the news. The lull in hikes was due to the elections that are being held as of now.
There is news of hikes (even in diesel and LPG prices) after the polls. Diesel prices have not at all been hiked since the two recent petrol price hikes that were made and now the price difference between petrol and diesel is about Rs 21 to Rs 22 per litre.
Crude oil prices have again touched $ 108 (Nymex) per barrel now. Brent crude sells for a higher price. The last petrol price was effected in India, when crude oil ruled @ $ 92 per barrel. The PSU oil companies are free to rev up the petrol prices (now decontrolled), but require a formal clearance from the Union Petroleum Ministry to either hike or reduce its price. Prices of other fuels like diesel, kerosene and LPG are still government controlled.

Re: Fuel Price Thread

Yes. The price of fuel is expected to increase sometime in May. Reportedly it's going to be drastic increase for the subsidised fuels. Not sure how it will be for petrol. This is expected soon after the Bengal elections or after the publication of election results.
