Totally agree with you on that. This is nothing but a gimmick for the upcoming elections. If they really care for the common man like they claim, then they must reduce the prices by atleast Rs. 10

Now the cat is really out of the bag. A tongue in cheek statement by IOC and at the same time 3% hike in ATF. The stink of the rat is unmistakable.

The only saving grace is there aint any diesel 2-wheelers.
Boss, you forget the biggest diesel users: the diesel genset & the diesel water pumps. The entire IT and agri sector works on these twin pillers. Then there is the shipping, transportation etc which work on diesel. India's economic competitiveness rests on pricing of diesel. Overprice it like petrol and you are finished economically.

Secondly the current price cut is a cruel joke. It seems they increased prices by 1.80 a few days back so that they could maintain the older Rs 5.00 margin intact. It was conveyed to these sadistic jokers before that oil prices would have to be reduced nominally before UP elections. And thus that gimmick giving excuse of dollar rate etc. These companies and govt are toying with petrol customers like we toy around with mosquitos or flies.

Check this out :

State-run oil firms to revise petrol prices every two weeks - The Times of India

Once this is followed, prices will vary (mostly up and rarely down) so often that peoples' reactions will be mellowed. Smart move by PSUs! "Killing me softly" comes to mind! So, they'll increase fuel prices by a few paise every 2 weeks rather than a few rupees every 2 months and face the wrath of the public.

Political pressure..!! Expect a steep growth in fuel prices post-elections. Govt. just needs junta for votes (read: notes - hindi), they don't need them after that. Post elections govt. will aam junta.

WHAT ON EARTH is this -

Driving to Pune? Tank up in city - The Times of India

So, petrol in Pune is going to be even more costly than it has been. Why? Because MSRDC can't manage their finances well. Pass it on to the commuters. An additional 1% cess on petrol in Pune and 3% on 7 other cities.

Utter nonsense.

That is what I have been saying...diesel consumers are varied cross section. There has been a proposal to administer dual pricing where the cell tower gen sets, mall gensets, industrial gensets etc., passenger cars need to pay market price. The implementation is difficult and prone to high level of corruption.

To start with, diesel cars should be taxed by the RTA. It is not difficult as the RTA has mechanism in place to collect quarterly/halfyearly/annual road tax from taxi/commercial registered vehicles. So every passenger diesel car owner had to pay certain amount of tax which should be marked as oil pool. The diesel generator sets should be brought under the joint supervision of electricity board and the revenue authorities. Here it gets complicated, and prone to be breached, circumvented but there should be some mechanism.

I remember seeing a few diesel 'bullets' quite a few years ago. Diesel technology has improved tremendously. Would love to see CRDI 150 cc - 250 cc units.

Abosolutely ridiculous. First they have to provide good roads then charge toll and cess. People are made to pay for inefficiencies of MSRDC and other companies.

Clearly vehcile owners are made whipping boys (esp. in Maharashtra).
You pay Green tax, Cess, Tolls and what not apart from the Road tax plus face hanging sword of fuel price rise every 15 days.

So petrol increases in Pune; that sets off a domino with auto unions and every one else under the sun wanting a hike in tariffs.

All this while MSRDC continues to provide us lousy roads and charge toll on them too.

What an idea sirji!

I would not complain if roads were good. Roads are pathetic, a flyover which was complete just 2 years ago have roads caving in and they ask us to pay for this. Seriously pathetic state of affairs!

re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

NDTV is reporting that petrol prices will be further reduced by 1.02 INR by wednesday.
Petrol Prices to be cut by 1.5

Dollar trading at 52 and petrol prices now going down.
It defies logic based on the reasoning given for increasing prices last time round but hey I am not complaining.

re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

The recent trend is getting a little scary. Two price drops in a fortnight is welcome alright.
A big hike is round the corner.
