Initial news was about reduction around 4rs and finally what we get is 2.5rs. Not bad. So, in effect, the 7.5rs increase has come down to 2.5rs increase i guess. But the impact it had on petrol cars, is irreversible !

Not sure of the exact prices, but now the petrol price in most cities of Kerala would be under 70. What helped was the state government giving up its share of taxes in the last hike. Seeing the price read as 69.xx is indeed a good feeling. Chennai still is at ~72.

Even I was surprised and pleased to see the petrol prices in the range of 72.xx when i visited Kollam a couple of weeks back. Huh Bangalore is still 76.xx a good 7 rupees costlier. All the talks of reducing VAT in Karnataka will definitely vanish into to thin air after this reduction.

Thats obviously expected. Karnataka govt have never reduced the price of anything nor have they made it easier for anyone. They charge outrageous prices for very little quality which they deliver.

btw,Any update on whether Shell will reduce their prices to line up with this? Currently they are still 77.7 i assume?

No idea about the reduction in the Shell prices. The car is almost 90% full on the fuel so not heading to the fuel station any time soon as the running is quite low.

OT: The VAT might come down when the election nears or with the election mandate.

What do you think would've happened politicians in KA are more concerned about who to occupy the CM post rather than do something meaningful for a change

Completely agree with this. These idiots are more concerned on making darnas, moving from resort to resort on deciding who will occupy the CM gaddi. Wonder when will this happen, may be near the election in 2014 or use this as an election mandate like what happened in Goa.

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

The crude oil price today is $86.60. Also dollar is at Rs 55.49. I don't know what the goverment is thinking. Why are we paying higher prices when we know that the prices are going down?

The governing body will discuss after 16th July and then take a call tentatively. But don't know what would be the price of crude oil and dollar value at that time. Fingers crossed.

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

Meanwhile, in Pune, the corporation has rejected the request to remove the Octroi duty on petrol, citing loss of revenue of 43 crores.
Here we are not even talking about reduction of VAT. This is over and above that tax.

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

CNG price to increase by 2.90/- per kg in Delhi , with effect from midnight. Now CNG cost more or less same as diesel.

My next car will surely be diesel, Running cost on CNG is as much as a diesel vehicle. Plus, you spend more on maintenance for CNG cars, plus loss of power on CNG.

Here's the link : CNG prices in NCR hiked by Rs 2.90 a kg - The Times of India

Cheers,
Sameer

Long term inflation for CNG now stands at 24.9%. I don't think there is any commodity that has seen this rate of price rise in recent times, not even petrol. I predict the demise of the the cng car!
