I filled up at Vikhroli on 8th of this month, the cost was 74.32/liter. Petrol costs about 2/liter more in Thane. So, it should be close to 77/liter in Thane.

I've not filled up petrol in Thane for close to a year now; costly and I don't know of reliable pumps.

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

CNG prices increased in Gujarat to more than 7 Rs/kg. CNG car owners will now have to shell out close to Rs 60 for every kg worth this natural gas alternative to the pricier petrol!

Post the reduction of octroi on the fuels in Thane from 4.5 to 0.5%, petrol prices in Thane are now at part with the Mumbai prices. It was 74.34 when I filled on 9th in Thane. Add 35 paises to that and now the petrol will retail at 74.7/-

Couple of reliable pumps are there in Thane - notably IOC pump at Tatvagyan Vidyapith opp Vihangs Inn on G B road, BPCL at Majiwade(under renovation now), HPCL pump at Teen Petrol pump area etc. Check this thread for more details.

Thanks for the update, I did not know of octroi reduction in Thane. BPCL pump at Majiwada is certainly not reliable, I was cheated once and never went there again. Second concern is the credit card acceptance and surcharge.

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

They claim that 0.35 + taxes is due to the hardening of crude prices. Then why are they procrastinating about Diesel, LPG and K-oil. I somehow smell a but of cross-subsidy. Brent has stayed in the $108-112 band for quite some time, while NYMEX has hardened. As a result the differential has dropped from $23 to $17 in a month.

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

Now some good news. Tghis alone should drive fuel prices lower by 10%.

Never look at what research analysts in a bank say - look at what the traders do.

If USD 15 bn of FII flows in the last 6 months have failed to strengthen the Rupee, I don't know what will. We need USD 30 bn of FII flows just to keep the INR flat, the odds are that will not come through and the INR will depreciate. The only realistic reason why the INR will strengthen is if oil prices come off significantly. So if oil prices remain flat, be prepared for further INR depreciation and higher fuel bills.

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

@Hayek; The only things which will help are reduction in Deficit, and Subbarao has put the spenthrift lobby in place. Hope they bite the bullet and increase Diesel, LPG and Kerossene prices soon. Also, PC seems to be really keen to push GST.

Seems like Govt has partially deregulated Diesel pricing, and companies can decide the price now. The Diesel prices will go up by around Rs 10/- in coming 2 - 3 months, for sure.

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

Diesel partially deregulated. OMC can hike Diesel prices now periodically.

Quote:
Moily also ruled out any revision in fuel prices as of now. However, he said that OMCs have been authorised to make diesel price corrections from time to time.

This in effect translates into a partial deregulation of diesel prices. Meanwhile, the Election Commission has granted no objection to government's proposal for raising cap on LPG gas quota.

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

A forked tongue if ever there was one. Some questions:

1. Who pays for the deficit on the additional three cylinders?
2. What is the schedule for Diesel hike - Rs.10 straight away or over a few months.
3. Was the 0.35 increase in petrol an attempt to cross subsidise a bit?
4. Will Petrol & Diesel be hiked to cross subsidize LPG?

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

Couple of queries.

- Will a liter of diesel and petrol cost the same if there were no regulations at all? If not, what could be the difference in price with no regulations?
- Have the govt. stipulated the periodicity and the maximum price hike in one period?

Oil companies say there is a loss of Rs 10/- per litre of Diesel. That amount will definitely by increased, IMO. So, a price difference of Rs 15% can be there between Diesel and Petrol - Petrol being 15% pricier than Diesel.
