I do not think so. I just remembered when the UK switched to Unleaded petrol the price was kept 0.5p per litre cheaper than leaded stuff. There was a near stampede of people wanting to use unleaded in their (older) cars. Did it really matter, no, my usage was about 100 litres per month, so I would have saved all of 50p a month!

It is the mindset which matters.

To add to it, Citibank has Indian Oil card which does not charge single paisa. I have been using this card from last 10 years or so and i end up getting 5/6k rupees petrol free every year because of reward points.

So its always better to have these CC which do not charge this surcharge. On top of it, now thanks to Modi, you can save .75% more by using it

I also thought so, till fellow mod Vidyut pointed out, the bill vs credit card statement had surcharge added. Since i was using SBI card which waives the charges, i was getting refund all the while (shown separate when i look at the statement). Which i thought was cess waiver, which was not the case. I have an IOC citibank card also, next i will use and see how it works.

Final outcome will be known soon, Govt. asks for soft pedaling the anticipated hike.

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

I have just filled up Rs. 1500 of petrol via my HDFC credit card (which generally gives me back the surcharge, minus the service tax).
I am looking forward to the 0.75% discount. :P

Petrol was 71.09 per liter in Pune city.

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

On Sunday the 2 normal stores that I visited had card not working issues - later found out that they were attributed to cyclone. Today when I visited my neighbourhood BP station (honest station) at 9 pm - they too said card payments not working. And ofcourse they denied having any change (so basically fill for exact cash payment). I asked for complaint book and they immediately agreed to fill and gave change (it helped that my bill came to 1700 something so was easy to get change of 2000).
This is in Bangalore - has anyone else experienced card issues today at pumps? I wasn't sure if they were doing mischief in anticipation of hike.

Sgiitk, can you still claim that the pricing is not dependant on govt policies / pressures?

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

^^ Things will never change in India. All this deregulation talk is just plain hogwash. The government decides the prices and without their approval, not even a paisa can be increased or decreased. And this is not the first time either that it is happening. During elections too, prices were always kept stable or decreased post deregulation claim. I do not think they will increase the prices anytime soon since the government is already battling the demonetization fiasco at present and would not want to increase their troubles.

With the government facing flak due to demonatization and a wasted winter session, the fuel price hike has been deferred.

I don't think they will do this for the next 2 years. Probably they may think about doing this just before the next general election. Till then
