I was one who always thought that there should be no subsidy for oils. But seeing the way our tax payers money is put to use, and the benifits we get, I now started feeling that it should be subsidised. What other benifit I get after paying,
Road tax,
Reg tax,
official tolls
unofficial tolls - like in checkposts, rtos
service tax,
sales tax etc etc on the vehicle.

All these after those guys take 33% from my salary just because you are earning

If you are smart enough to invest those TAX-ed money to get some interest, again pay 10% to 33% tax on those income.
If you are smart enough to buy a house, pay reg. tax, property tax, sewage tax, water tax and what not
If you fed up with this and sell the house, then again pay capital gains tax...
If you go to restaurants, then again taxed for 22.5%
If you use mobiles or telephones, again pay 12% (or 10??) service

thats right the trend definitely seems to be set , but i think that petrol catching up with the price advantage of diesel is still quite sometime off unless the government decides to implement , differentail pricing of fuel for commercial , non commercial and agricultural vehicles.

This is so annoying and so pi**ing off.
The fuel cut can be carried off now, but no, these Politicians will wait. Only after the elections will the price cut happen.

This is called cheating us infront of our own eyes.

Horrendous behavior by the govt.

Times of India, Delhi - 05/Dec/2008

Govt weighs Rs 10/litre cut in petrol price by next week

At Last, Some News That Brings A Smile To Your Face

TIMES NEWS NETWORK

New Delhi: The government is toying with the idea of reducing the price of petrol by up to Rs 10 a litre — double the amount by which it was raised in June — diesel by Rs 3 and cooking gas by Rs 20 per refill in the wake of crude prices looking set to hover around $45 a barrel in international markets.
A reduction in fuel prices has been in the offing since September when crude started to slide from its mid-July peak of $147/barrel. But the higher amount being considered for reduction is part of an overall strategy to put money into people’s pockets in the hope that it may spur demand or help in taking some pressure off other areas.
A set of proposals, outlining the economics and combinations for reducing fuel prices, may be taken to the Cabinet next week by when the results of all state elections — except J&K — are out. The imperative for a hefty cut in fuel prices also increases as it is expected to bring some cheer in the aftermath of the attacks in Mumbai.

Why only 3 rupees on diesel when there is a substantial reduction on petrol?!

Actually speaking Diesel is costier than petrol and it is highly subsidised in India. That subsidy has already created dent, that is why the diesel price reduction is 3 compared to petrol 10 Rs.

Yes but usually the prices and hiked and reduced for both around the same % , which is why i wonder how this time its different.

During the hike petrol went up 5rs, diesel 3rs as per what i remember. But with the pricecut diesel will be back to its normal price with 3rupees cut and petrol 5 rupees its normal price thanks to the 10rupee cut.

for a prosperous India(and world) ,more R&D must be done with regarding to fuel-cell powered vehicles and other alternate energy sources leaving the dependency for crude oil from Middle east.
and gov can easily cut Rs10 for petrol at this time.

Though i am a diesel user i feel good for my petrol friends with the 10 ruppe cut(its a lot of money if you do the caluclations for a yearly usage). So lets not grimace that diesel is cut by 3 only. Still it will be 30.80 diesel and 40.50 petrol in NCR so lets be happy with the cut for timebeing.
Though i would love to see the day when Petrol and diesel prices will be on par and we consumers will not think twice to get a petrol or diesel car.
