Any idea how much Shell unleaded will cost ? I filled it last time for 52.xx and the Shell super was 54.xx. So what would be the new price ? Is it the last price - 5 ?

Then there is yet to come. The price for both Petrol and Diesel will be slashed again before up-coming Elections. I guess by March 1st half.

That could be possible but is more likely a lot of wishful thinking. Of course, the Great Renouncer can ordain another price cut.

I don't see anymore price cuts in future.

But, good that Govt duly passed the low oil price benefits to the people.

And that is exactly the sentiment they want to instill among the electorate.

Wow. Rs44.24 in Chennai for petrol. Cool.
The last we saw similar price for petrol (44.26) was in 2005.

The best way to do it is to leave Chennai with only barely enough petrol to be able to limp into Pondy limits. Then tank her up.

Madras-Pondy is like 150kms and it would take a little less than 10litres for my Baleno to get there. Once there, it would take in close to 50 litres, which translates to a cool saving of Rs312.

Follow that with doing a tank-up for yourself (ie. if you drink).

And drive back (not drunk ofcourse) to Chennai a happy man with a very well-fed car.

Help me understand this, you'll save 312 Rs on the petrol, but by your calculation, you'll be spending 10*2 ltrs=20 lts of fuel along the way. That's spending 760 rupees to save 312. And that's notwithstanding the cost of your time. Am I missing something?

No, you are not missing anything. If someone from Chennai drives down to Pondy JUST to save on petrol, he would actually end up losing money in the bargain - like you rightly said.

But Pondy is not just about cheap fuel. It is a nice place to spend time and have fun with friends/family. And ofcourse cheap booze and a huge variety in the booze, which you won't get in Chennai.

So, if someone is planning a weekend trip or even a day trip to Pondy, then the fuel saving happens to be a bonus. My tip was for those that fall in this category.

Good to see the reductions now. But They could have done this much much earlier. We are expecting one more cut before elections as it will be final push for the govt before elections.
