Kudos to Govt, they are really great. Infact all previous govt are just the same. Just for votebank politics they never change their attitude.
Give subsidies on diesel/kerosene/LPG so the poor wont suffer and are economically better off. But what about the rich kids of the same politicians buying top end diesel cars, so they too should need diesel subsidy is it. And the middle class people who buy a petrol vehicle thinking they wont drive that much and who decide against going for a diesel car in the first place, but still end up paying more for the fuel because petrol always goes up more than diesel. This is not fair in a democracy.

Diesel car buyers buy them only because diesel is cheaper than petrol, thou they cost more than the petrol cars. And they cost more because manfacturer wants to cash in on the demand from diesel crazy car buyers in india and ofcourse the diesel engines are complex to build too. And why have they increased kerosene and LPG prices when they are talking about subsidy at the same time.

Why the govt treats so differently for private and public commuting when it comes to diesel/petrol. Why can't they have an additional tax for pvt diesel vehicles so that it discourages diesel usage at the first place.Kirit parikh gave a suggestion that diesel cars should be asked to shell out 80k more when they are sold. IMHO Thats the right thing to do. That way govt can still subsidise fuel and help the needy and keep inflation under control.

This is really a bad time to do this now, yesterday heard the milk price would be hiked here by 4-5 RS and today this, i dont know what would be the rippling effect this hike might have.

GOI is at it again. Looting its citizens in the name of reducing subsidies. Subsidies my foot! It's strange to see some teambhpians supporting GOI. Can these people and GOI throw some light on cost price of fuel and amount of subsidies doled out? It's like marking up a 150rupee T-shirt to 1000. Then selling it at 700 and crying that they are giving a 300 rupee subsidy. We are buying this bull**** story hook, line and sinker.

Auto strikes,Car owners/bikers shifting to public transport = More space on road for me .
Guess its Time to shift to shell again.
Now the Big Question. Why dont highly taxed states such as KA reduce State Taxes to ease the Burden ?

P.S Topped up all my cars for close to 10k lol

Was thinking of doing more rides than driving just recently and also planned for a short ride this weekend. More price hikes will surely make me a hard core biker again

On a serious note, as everyone has voiced out, the taxes has to be reduced specially the central govt. taxes. Its not just enough if the petroleum minister orders/requests the State Govt. to lower the taxes. It has to be lowered at the central govt. first and then ask the state govt. to follow suit!!

To,
Mr Middle class

Hello Mr. Middle class man. Hope you are doing well. You must have already noticed that we at GOI have successfully and consistently kept inflation high. In order to negate the harmful effects of salary hikes you got(if any) last year and this year we are going for fuel price hikes. This will make sure that inflation goes up even more. Kindly rework your monthly budget again.
What did you say? Why me?
Well its because you chose to be a MIDDLE CLASS MAN.

At you service

Well put my friend specially the part in bold!! With the meager hikes that i got last year, the govt. had to do this to make me go back to the excel sheet to rework the monthly expenses

Being a travel loving guy, its turning out to be a costly affair with the fuel price de-regulated without the reduction in taxes. Lets see what happens with the fuel prices in B'lore.

A negative move. This price rise is unnecessary and is done to hit the common man, earn more money to be spent by politicians.

Why no reduction in taxes ?
Why no reduction in Excise ?
Why no reduction in Service Tax ?

If a person buys a car, he first would pay for excise, then road tax and whenever he gets his car serviced, pays service tax. Why all these taxes ? How can a common man survive with these high costs, specially when the prices of all commodities are on an upward trend.

A lot of corruption is there & from refineries truckloads of fuel is being taken away as a part of corruption. When will this stop ?

A big, big negative move.

What about safe, secure public transport without anti social elements ?
We all call India as a great country, but not its clear that GOI is just a scum of the earth government.
What Indian middle class gets is suffering, always. Looks like its a crime to be Indian middle class. Those who are Indian middle class people must have done something terribly wrong in their past lives, thats why God has sent them here again as high tax paying, suffering, never getting justice Indian middle class.

No thats not a right comparison.
The huge part of the subsidy goes to cooking fuels like kerosene and lpg. The lpg you use is subsidized by about rs.300 (or more). I use private lpg which costs rs.650 for 12kg wrt subsidized lpg which is rs.350-400 for 15kg.
The subsidy to auto fuels is very less in comparison. That exist mostly because when in govt control due to populist tendencies govt cannot hike prices immediately.
Now there will be more people affected if the cooking fuel prices are hiked than a hike in auto fuels.
Everyone immediately says there will be more inflation with diesel prices, but the problem will be worse if the govt bleeds and the fiscal deficit goes up. So, the sooner the subsidy to auto fuel is stopped the better. Else, it will be just postponing the problems.

Now as things are GOI taxes on fuels goes to the tax kitty, which in effect subsidizes the cooking fuels, fertilizers etc.
But has anyone wondered about the state taxes? I stay in Bangalore which has the highest fuel prices in India(also most expensive to buy a car here). The state govt says it uses these funds for transport infrastructure. I dont see the infrastructure even barely coping with the growth in vehicles. Even outside bangalore, the state highways, less said the better.

Can some expert tell the long term effect of freeing up on the relative diesel / petrol prices?
The price movement in US shown here EIA - Petroleum Data, Reports, Analysis, Surveys indicates nearly same prices. In India if subsidies are removed, will the petrol and diesel prices be almost same? In such a scenario, can we expect increased demand (and resale value) for petrol cars? Learned may kindly enlighten me.

Yaawwn!! I am a regular at Shell, so this makes no difference to me. I hope they really mean business this time and will not go back. I still depend on my good old Splendor for commute and the car is reserved for week-ends/special occassions, so it really makes no difference.

But on the flip side, I will get more conveyance allowance! So will employees in many other companies/Govt offices!

I just topped up, with no queue at the bunk at all. Wouldn't mind any such savings any which ways.

If I find time I'll even topup the other car later in the evening today.
That extra zero you added made me remove my glasses, clean them and read the screen again.

Maybe, we got to hear about the news and had time to go and fill up before the crazy mob started queuing up at the pumps.

Moreover, how many times do we fill up with an almost empty tank? Most of the time I fill up to the first auto-cut off and it's ranges from 20-25 litres and the reason why I quoted 100-150 as saving.
It does not make sense at all to line up for the meager savings of 100-150. With the current inflation rate, this saving does not even cover a one time decent meal at a decent restaurant!

ROFL! for the line in bold

Totally agree with you and think on the same lines. Though my car needs fuel, it still has about 8-10 liters left. So even if i filled full tank, it would be about 20-23 liters max. And with a 4Rs. price hike, i would be saving max about 100 bucks. Left it as is.

On the net, the revised prices mentioned are only for metro cities. Does anyone know how much is the price hike in Bangalore?
