Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

LBT(Local Body Tax) has unfortunately taken it's toll on fuel prices. While in Mumbai price is around 69.88, Navi Mumbai areas like Vashi has the rate of around 72 because of LBT.

Can anyone confirm if this is the same trend in all areas of Navi Mumbai?

Pune's rate is about 69.3. I'm not sure if the LBT has already been implemented there or not.

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

Get set for a major hike in diesel prices

New Delhi, May 8 -- With the Karnataka assembly polls coming to an end, brace yourself for a hike in diesel prices, this time may be even double of the otherwise monthly increase of 50 paise a litre. Diesel is currently priced at Rs. 48.67 a litre (in Delhi). After three consecutive hikes of 50 paise each in diesel prices beginning January, the government, through an informal diktat, had refrained oil companies from revising prices in April due to the Karnataka polls.
The hike could be announced anytime soon, a senior oil company official said on the condition of anonymity. "Diesel prices were not revised in April and so the two hikes of close to R1 a litre may be passed together or staggered over the month as two hikes of 50 paise each... We will seek the Centre's approval for the same."
Following a fall in global crude oil prices, oil companies have been implementing a series of reductions in petrol prices over the past two months, the last being on April 30.
The price of petrol was slashed by Rs. 3 per litre last week, the steepest cut in more than four years. Coming ahead of the Karnataka polls, the reduction in petrol prices coupled with no change in diesel prices came as a big support for the ruling Congress-led UPA government.

Shell 'international quality' diesel at Rs. 57.50 in Bangalore compared to around Rs. 53.10 for others.

Any further hikes and I'm moving to Shell permanently :-)

That's some news. If Shell retails diesel at 57.50 then our PSU oil companies should once and for all increase their diesel prices by Rs. 4.40. It will once and for all rest the subsidy and disparity issue.

None the less diesel still remains cheaper even through non subsidized rate is at Rs. 57.50 compared to petrol retailing at Rs. 69.

Hoping Shell opens it's outlet here in Navi Mumbai soon, so I can give my Vento TDi a taste of 'international quality' diesel.

@ramanak; Remember there are four or five elections before 2013 ends. Even they know in their hearts the peculiar situation in Karnataka, and should not extrapolate. I think they will just stick with the Re.0.50 pm on Diesel.

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

I noticed that Shell is selling Diesel at 57.xx in Bangalore as compared to so called subsidized diesel sold at PSU pumps for 53.10rs.

Now Company like shell will never loose its profit margins. Which means Govt is only loosing around 4 rs per ltr of Diesel unlike the 16rs they were claiming 6 months back !!

With every hike now, The losses are going to be minimal isnt it ?

With the hike, going to Shell bunks makes a lot sense with the gap lessening. The earlier price in Bangalore was 53.10 and with the hike it will be around 54.3 or 54.4 with all the taxes considered. With Shell at 57.50, the gap now is a mere 3 bucks. With another round of hike or drop in crude prices, Shell makes an obvious choice.

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

What is the impact of these hikes on inflation? I am amused. Till january when the first hike was announced all the opposition parties and various transport unions were predicting "end of the world" scenario for the economy if diesel prices were touched. Now 4 hikes later I don't see anyone even issuing a statement on the same. It would be really interesting to see how far the govt goes with this policy.

Shh, for once the govt. is doing the right thing although a tad slow for my liking. Please don't spook the cats and the mothers and elder sisters (you know who I mean, don't ya).

For the first time in history diesel rates overtake petrol in India.
In Goa:
GO GOA GONE....
The rates in Panaji are:
HSD - 52.76
MS - 52.11

Petrol now cheaper than diesel in Goa!

As mentioned earlier, Goa is now the only state in the country where petrol (Rs 52.1) is now cheaper than diesel (Rs 52.7). Check out the following news report in the Herald newspaper of Goa (11 May 2013).

I wonder how many (in Goa) would still want to consider a diesel car, especially since diesel variants are around Rs 1 lakh over and above the petrol variant of the same model.

Without an iota of doubt, we are finally on the right path.Once the diesel subsidy is gone, hopefully, the taxes on fuel esp. Petrol will be rationalized!
