No point in hoping for a roll back or a reprise on fuel costs. What we need is the government to actively pursue and give subsidies for alternate energy research and technology. Eco benefits enjoyed by other countries citizens on purchasing hybrid or electric cars should be introduced here too. We need better infrastructure for such technology and give enough impetus to companies for investing in this technology.

- Manmohan has launched an electric car policy; Mahindra is first on board
- Metros in most cities; roads between cities already better
- Train capacity to go up dramatically
- Cars getting more & more efficient, most are now about 15 kmpl - unheard of a decade ago
- CNG/LPG cars getting more widespread

Worldwide there are no new huge oil discoveries happening; but lot of gas.. future is hybrid/CNG/electric transportation.

Mahindra/Reva electric small car still costs 4-5 Lakhs plus. Such a class of vehicle should be around 3-4 post subsidies. Honda launched a hybrid civic for 20 Lakhs earlier because lack of subsidies and even though it was sold off they shelved the idea. What we need is a good city/vento sized hybrid for 8-9 Lakhs post subsidies. And a polo/i20 hatchback sized for 4-5 Lakhs post subsidies.

This will get people to buy hybrids/electric and force the govmt and other private companies to invest in infrastructure and technology. Current subsidies seem just a white wash to have a tick mark in a checklist. Not good enough.

@eyes09; With a bankrupt govt we need the quantum to be jacked up to at least Rs.1.50 pm but I doubt it will happen.

@sgiitk LOL I agree. Hopefully it does not but the guy sounded very confident. Just saw on News as well that because of Rs falling they will increase the cost.

Hello,

With excahnge rate between US Dollar & Indian Rupee once again hitting 61, I feel Oil Marketing Companies will soon start crying the same old song - we are incurring huge losses & if fuel prices are not increased, we will go bankrupt in few months.

I have a feeling that Petrol prices may be hike soon, if US Dollar stays in range of 61 / 62 against Rupee.

Coming to Diesel prices - During last couple of days I was watching pre-poll surveys on various new channels & they have predicted huge losses for the currently rulling party. This fact may delay reforms such as periodic increase of Diesel Prices. Also as the election comes near, regional political parties will start flexing their muscles & government may not be in a position to increase Diesel prices.

Thanks,

I'm surprised by just 50P in diesel. Especially considering the recent increase in the petrol prices. Surely this has a 'election' effect built in. The crude India mainly uses has not shown any increase in the recent times. Wonder what's the ratio between the paise increase in the petrol/diesel prices to every Rupee increase in the exchange rate considering everything else remains same.

Seems you've not been following the fuel price policy recently . The Diesel will be increased 50p every month, till it gets to a no subsidy price, once there, it should be free like petrol.
SLK is online now   (1) Thanks

Bad news again. Petrol hits 71/- per litre in Ranchi then. Poor we, the common people....giving them more money for more corruption.

Fuel prices hiked, again!

Quote:
In a move that will surely award the authorities with lot of frawns, the petrol price was today hiked by 70 paise per litre. The diesel price too was increased by 50 paise a litre. The revised prices, which have been decided after factoring in local sales tax/VAT, will come into effect midnight tonight.
Petrol price in Delhi will now be Rs 71.28 per litre while it will cost Rs 78.61 per litre in Mumbai.
Diesel price in Delhi has been hiked by 56 paise to Rs 51.40 per litre while it will cost Rs 58.23 in Mumbai from tomorrow.

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

Luckily just got my tank full today. Feels good

So finally they increase diesel prices too. I still feel all this is just hogwash and they will just keep increasing prices till the end of times with the gap in the pricing maintained.

An electric car doesn't make much sense to the typical Indian car owner - it costs more than a comparable petrol vehicle and cannot cover long distances. They ought to provide vehicle owners the option of retro-fitting their cars with batteries and electric motors, just like they can retro-fit CNG fuel systems. Perhaps they can even provide subsidies to turn into electric vehicles like the Bajaj RE, which are classified as quad-bikes rather than cars and are priced at 1 lakh.
