So the differential will be under Rs.15!

The most alarming factor in Diesel is SPM and uSPM. Thid can be lower only if green technology is adapted, but the PSUs got the BS-IV norms diluted since they could not meet the E-IV norms for sulphur. Also, this lobby is behind BS-V being postponed.

As for CNG there is already a shortage, partly due to the reluctance to revice prices, since it will impact power and fertilizer

Good to know about this. Many times I have gone from Pune to Palghar/ Boisar/ Gujarat and filled up somewhere around Airoli or Thane and the rates were higher.

Next time, I will tank up somewhere earlier on the route (but after the expressway ends) so that I can skip Thane or probably reach closer to Manor before filling up.

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

So now the exact difference between Petrol and Diesel is 13.50 rs. I thought diesel is already de-regulated, but Govt seem to be silent on this. So few more months of 50 ps increase to build a buffer of 1 rs profit before they stop the diesel hike ?

I really doubt if they will stop it now until both fuels are priced exactly the same which will take an eternity. No one is really criticizing the diesel price hikes every month and hence I do not see any reason for them to hurt there own revenue source.

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

Latest news is that Brent has already fallen to $101/barrel. This is a drop of about 13%. On Rs. 80/- this works out to about Rs. 10/-!!! So actually petrol should be selling at Rs. 70/- in Mumbai by end of this month? Don't get your hopes up guys. We will probably see only another Rs. 2.xx cut.

Reliance, Shell and Essar are getting ready to open their petrol pumps in a big way. Hopefully then we will see true market set prices, instead of being cheated by the Oil PSUs all the time.

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

A liter of petrol costs Rs. 69.68 in Ranchi. Diesel is 61.XX, hence the difference is mere 8 rupees here.

Really ? I thought all of them could then cheat together.

Indian oil market is basically a price-fixation market, why should the private & public sector forego profits. In US the tendencies are also same, they never cut the cost of gas (heating) for example. The cartelization ensures that there are no break-outs.

Yes, probably that is what will happen. But hopefully on some days we will get buy 2L get 1 free, etc. types of rackets too. At least make the consumer feel good.

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

They made sure that Reliance, potentially the biggest of them all, shot shop (retail outlets). Chaps like Essar are babies. Shell buys from IOC.

Delhi: Petrol is selling at 70.xx/ltr and Diesel is at 58.xx/ltr. Still about a Rs.11 gap.

Don't have any knowledge about how all this works. But what I wanna know is will this 10± difference between petrol and diesel sustain or it will come down to bare equal?
