If it is indeed a drought tax, why only on petrol? Even after de regularization of diesel, taxes make sure there is a huge margin between Petrol and Diesel, may be interest lies elsewhere.

In fact, when the Draught Tax (of 2 ₹) was first implied, it was proposed for 2 yrs only.. Now the period is over by another year & there is NO Draught in the State also..

But, the Tax still remains..
As a matter of fact, Govt needs to collect revenue by this or that way..

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

It seems that as per the box Mumbai has the honor of having the costliest fuel in India.

So Mumbaikars should rejoice. (?)

One of the idiotic reasons stated by the state govt as read in the newspapers to hike the VAT on petrol was to compensate for the loss of tolls when PWD and MSRDC scrapped a few state levied tolls.

Now with the Pune Expressway toll scrapping in midst of heat due to public litigation filed, it would not be a surprise if the VAT on fuels is further increased to compensate for the loss here too.

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

The fuel prices may go down in view of ₹ being stronger this fortnight..

My speculation is, it will be 1.5- 2 ₹ down for both (if won't be even more than that.)

Plz note, it's just a speculation only..

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

In UP we are in a mess with more and more bunks being exposed. A strike by the pump owners in Lucknow did not last even a day.

I am quite sure the fraud must have some serious political backing, else this wide spread game can not survive. Watch the space for more developments.

This is an interesting article.

Not really sure if we will see the pump prices going down in a hurry though. I wouldn't be surprised if they bump up their excise taxes again.

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

With crude down by >10% in last 30 days and Re appreciation, there should be a drop in prices, don't understand why we continue to pay high and bear the brunt of govt. inefficiencies coupled with state govts dictatorship in earning more revenues from fuel.
Highly frustrating.

A little more time, and we should be able to ride the prevailing prices every day. Be it a hike or drop in international prices. Would like to see how people will react to increases when the new system comes in.

Read this today, contradicting to price cut. If this is true, then we should be expecting a hike.

Oil prices rose after Iraq and Algeria joined Saudi Arabia in supporting an extension of OPEC supply cuts and US inventories fell more than expected, said a Reuters report.
US crude rose 3.2 percent to USD 47.35 per barrel and Brent was last at USD 50.22, up 3.06 percent on the day.
