Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

Fuel prices zip past the ₹ 100 mark in some states!

Quote:
Petrol has shot up to Rs 102 per litre in parts of Rajasthan and MP. Elsewhere too the prices were in sight of hitting a century and diesel made new records after fuel retailers raised prices for the fourth day.
Quote:
On Friday, petrol sold for Rs 102.15 a litre in Sri Ganganagar, Rs 101.86 in Anuppur, Madhya Pradesh and Rs 99.95 in Parbhani, Maharashtra

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

I wish we had elections every month in our country, cause that's the only way to keep the fuel prices steady.

Guess we'll have to wait for a year for that to happen as there upcoming elections in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

Was intrigued to learn that IOCL recently launched XP95, i.e. 95 Octane fuel in India.

https://www.autocarindia.com/car-new...-petrol-420689

Any idea if XtraPremium will be discontinued as 2 varieties at similar price point does not make sense

Also, any other fuel retailer provides similar quality fuel?

Diesel price up by Rs 1.22, petrol by Rs 1 in one week, increase in fuel price likely to stay for months to come.

Petrol price up by 30%, diesel by 37% in 13 months

The price data table above reveals just how much more motorists in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Kolkata are paying to travel the same distance. from April 1, 2020 when the BS VI emissions mandate kicked in, petrol price has risen by Rs 22.84 a litre and diesel by Rs 24.29 a litre.

The petrol-diesel price differential of Rs 10.09 per litre on April 1, 2020, is today down to Rs 8.64 a litre, indicating the speedier price rise in diesel, which is the fuel used by scores of commercial vehicles crisscrossing the country and transporting essential goods and at present life-saving oxygen cylinders.

Since we have wide range of demographics from all over the country here. Just wanted to know what would be the ceiling or threshold where the price of fuel starts bugging or affecting the daily routine? Any point where passive resistance starts or it doesn't matter at all?

It's highly dependent on the daily commute distance. A person traveling 5 kms a day wouldn't bother too much about fuel costs. But for someone like me who needs to travel 70kms a day, this is a big chunk. Last year around this time, the price was ₹75. Today it's nearly ₹94. Since salaries don't increase at 25% a year, this will definitely pinch. Not to mention the inflation it causes.

Well around 2 months ago people started voicing against the rapidly increasing fuel prices, I saw many WhatsApp stories saying "If you want a lion you have to pay for him too" or "for 5 rupees more you don't change your prime minister"

So till the time we have people like this around us, including the media, I don't think anything is going to happen.

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

Prices of petrol and diesel increased by more than 20 rupees per litre in last one year due to massive increase in additional excise duty.

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

Unfortunately, fuel price increases are here to stay - irrespective who governs the nation. Over the past two decades or so, fuel prices have been increasing at a CAGR of 7%. This means on an average the prices double in about 10 yrs. Considering that a commodity super cycle has kicked off and is here to stay for the better part of the next decade (barring short and sharp corrections) I believe that, in this decade, fuel prices might double in 5-7 yrs instead of 10 yrs it took them in the 2010s.

Petrol and diesel at Rs.200/litre might sound outlandish today, but will become a harsh reality by 2025/2027.

I don't think majority of the people would be able to fill their tanks at the quoted price. Just imagine paying 10,000 for a refill which lasts for a week. Don't think any average salaried person would be able to afford that. Not even considering the inflation on food prices here.

Well now it's not mere 5 Rupees. Keeping politics aside, change from 2014 to 21 is around Rupees 28 per litre in Diesel. Still it doesn't affect them? Either these people don't have jobs/venture out or they've been substantially brainwashed. *Sigh*. Didn't think people would ever support this much, to something which impacts them directly and negatively.

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

I think we just blabber our inner frustration on this thread these days. No one cares about how upward the fuel prices are going. It’s now well known that deregulation of prices was a good joke that was played on the country. The idea of deregulation of fuel prices was good but turned on its head by the late finance minister of our country who gleefully increased the taxes when the oil prices were low.

But at least, now the silver lining is due to lockdown across many states, not many cars would be on the streets. But the commercial operators will have their hands full. Either way, it’s us who are going to bear the brunt of the high fuel prices

Well I'm not comparing our forever developing nation to the developed ones like the US or UK but just for the sake of statistics the average US household expenditure on fuel in 2017 was approx 2.4% of mean incomes of households. In UK in 2019, people spent 4.2% of their total expenditure on energy which includes electricity. Now get this, Indians spend 17% of their income on fuel. With ever increasing prices, it's probably getting higher.

I don't know what the ceiling is or if there's any but this excessive taxation on an essential item has put many in a tough patch specially during this already tough times.
