SX4 Diesel - Is it on the cards? Update: Now launched

1.3 liter SX4 with 85 bhp. That will be a winner from Maruti indeed. But still, its a speculation. I guess by July 2010 we will know!

Great to hear this. Pray god for this to happen. 1.9L should be killer on road with 100+hp under the hood.
Hope they use the same eng. for GV as well.

Currently 2.0 Ltr(1954cc) Multijet 135 BHP SX4 DDiS is available in international market. But for india I think 1.9ltr 120hp with Variable Geometry Turbine has been planned. I am not sure but this is what I can guess with data available with me. It is sure that the engine is 1.9L Multijet.

If Maruti SX4 comes with 1.9l-120bhp engine, I would like to go for the same. This is tempting as I have test driven the petrol SX4 with my family & all found it to be good (space & interiors) & me too was satisfied with the performance.

Actual Update.

Ended up at the suzuki factory couple of days back, 1.6 MJD is under trial, the production will start in Nov-Dec 2010. The delivery will start in Jan 2011.

with the brand equity and reputation for reliability, service availability and other advantages that maruti enjoys, the new SX4 Diesel will definitely click with the market place. The trick is for them to keep it at the sub 10 lac level for the fully loaded version, in which case, people will flock to it in droves!

From 1.3 to 1.9 to now 1.6, the thread seems to go on and on and speculate. I don't see any concrete news from any body. If 1.6 is true, it will be a super move from MSIL. The Sx4 will surely then give a strong fight to the segment leader City.

My news is from the horses mouth, I was there and started talking about the engines they were making and the guy was very forthcoming about the 1.6 MJD he said they are ready with it and can launch it in nov-dec but himself added that probably it will be launched only in Jan 2011.

Judging FIAT, i would say that Maruti will not be the only one with the 1.6 MJD then. Im sure the 1.6 MJD will be available to all manufacturers for their mid size cars.

If the Linea adopts that 1.6 MJD engine, it then gains further room to differntiate itself as a truly premium offering in comparison to the Manza.

These are all just speculations in my opinion. Its gonna be a Fiat diesel for sure, but on capacity I'd rather not bet. The 1.9 seems a distant dream for now. The 1.3 and 1.6 are the potential candidates. Maruti, may think defensive and rope in the 1.3 But hey, like I said we can all speculate, that's part of the freedom of speech!

PS: I would prefer the 1.6 diesel!

Suzuki has also got an 1.5 DDis which is offered in Suzuki Jimny. Will they use this?

As they promote the car as a Man's car, the diesel version cannot definitely be underpowered. A 1.9 liter oil burner will make real sense; wonder what happens to the price though!

I did talk about that too, it is on the cards but they are not developing any engines for it so either it will take a lot of time or it will come the Vitara way. The guy did talk about a 2.4 lt engine for Kizashi, he was just not sure whether it will be manufactured here or not.

1.3 MJD is confirmed for SX4 strong source in MSIL
don't really know the details as yet about the power or torque but i hope its powerfull enough and not like the sluggish 1.3 in Linea.
It will be launched pretty soon.
