SX4 Diesel will indeed be welcome addition and will stir the c segment a bit more. MSIL should also start palnning a replacement for this car. It has been in the market for 3.5 years and has started looking od in comparison to the likes of Honda City and Vento.

Regardless of fit/ finish/ build issues, a lot of us have been looking for an official announcement for the diesel SX4.

I guess it would be same one doing duty in Punto 90, however there would be some tuning to show Maruti's individuality.

A diesel SX4 would be a neck to neck competition for Linea, Vento, new Fiesta and Verna.

Good to see Maruti coming up with new launches to keep up the pace with other manufacturers.

The NDTV article makes it look like the Swift and Dezire diesel engines don't have turbochargers When will these journalists do a little research into the topic they are writing on

Coming to the diesel SX4, i'm sure it will be have better performance than the Linea due to its weight advantage and with the way the Swift has been tuned, the SX4 D should be interesting.

A diesel SX4 was surely much awaited, however, I really feel that Maruti should give a bigger diesel in SX4. 1.3 (I guess would be the same Fiat engine) is enough till the category of Dzire in my opinion.

Thats interesting as I thought Fiat wont allow them to use a 90bhp version of the national engine. If they do, I am buying more stocks of them!

Looks like its the 90HP version of 1.3 DDiS.

I had taken my sx4 to get its brakes checked yesterday.. And was inquiring about the CNG version.. While discussing the on going deals the person even mentioned that SX4 with a 1.3 L Diesel engine is at ARAI for testing..

Yes its official now. Todays Deccan Herald reports that Maruti will launch a diesel version of its SX4 early next year.

The car will come with the 1.3 litre turbo disel engine sourced from Fiat. The SX4 diesel will commence production early next year when the Maruti factory reopens during the next year after a short year ending holiday.

So kudos to all who are waiting for the SX4 diesel. Even I have been waiting since a long time for it. I will inquire with the delears and book one once the bookings start.

Will 1.3 Turbo be enough for pulling off the mighty SX4?? It would be sure be Underpowered and is sure to lose against Linea, Verna and may be Vento too.

I mean the engine is good enough for Swift, Ritz, and Dezire. But SX4? Why cant they put in a more powerful Diesel engine? Wake up MUL before you sink the SX4 even more !

I do not think the 90BHP 1.3 DDIS engine in SX4 will feel underpowered.
The same engine is also plonked into Tata Manza and Fiat Linea which also sports the same weight numbers.

But compared to the Vento and Verna, it will feel underpowered.

Till november MS maintained that they would be putting in a 1.6L indegeneously developed engine into SX4 by mid 2011. I think the introduction of Vento and now the threat of Etios MS has taken a shortterm decision of putting in 1.3L engine. I am sure they would also introduce a 1.6L engine in the 2012 Model of SX4 diesel.

Its Official now.. SX4 will be launched early 2011 with 1.3 Litre turbo charged Diesel engine. According to the statement, the assembling will start from Jan 3rd after the Plant reopens !! Maybe in March or April, we can expect the launch.
IMO, the power output will be around 90bhp.
I'm pleasantly surprised with the exterior modifications (atleast thats what appears in the newspaper ad). It looks more sporty.

Don't be surprised because it's the SX4 as it's sold in Europe and it's a hatch. I don't think MSIL will launch it here. Are we sure that the 1.3 engine will be the 90 Bhp version or will it be the same 75 Bhp avatar?
