Re: SX4 Diesel - Is it on the cards? Update: Now launched

The Indian consumer will finally vote for VFM, reliability, peace of mind, status, space, comfort, FE etc with his/ her wallet.

Whatever one may say, Maruti seems to have perfected the art of giving the market exactly what it wants.

Hence, I am pretty sure that the SX4 Diesel will soon be enjoying the normal 3-4 month wait list that the Swift and Dzire enjoy.

Now think of the ordinary man! Looking forward to seeing the sales figures for SX4 diesel. I really believe it has the potential to catch up with the Honda City numbers.
You are right. But that is only in the hatchback section.

As far as sedans are concerned, I think Maruti siffers from poor brand Image. That is why SX4 is not even selling half the number of cars as Honda city.

I think SX4 needed to price this car atleast 75K less to offer some sort of competition. And also remember increase the power output from 75 BHp to 90BHP from the same engine does not have any drastic improvement in real world. Although it is a VGT i have a perception it will have slightly more turbo lag. And yes a better midrange.

Re: SX4 Diesel - Is it on the cards? Update: Now launched

test drove the car yesterday at Bimal Auto, bangalore

in the 2-3 kms that i drove, i could say
1. a well insulated cabin with less diesel noise coming in
2. no turbo lag in the 1st & 2nd gear
3. once the 1400-1500 rpm is reached, very strong power is delivered. Scared me a bit as I am used to my Santro's torque
4. very good seating position.
5. engine is much light compared to SX4 non vvt engine

expect 20 days waiting period. the 1st lot ( of ZDi ) has been sold out except for a Black one.

If we take petrol cars only-

By your logic, Maruti SX4 has poor brand image compared to Honda City. Hyundai Verna/ Ford Fiesta/ VW Vento does have even lesser brand image compared to Maruti Suzuki. FIAT Linea/ Chevrolet Optra has even lesser brand image compared to Hyundai/ Ford/ VW?

DZire prooves the point the point that Maruti does have brand image in VFM sedans as well. SX4 diesel plays true to the values Maruti as a brand stand for, and i believe the sales will tell the same story.

How come a car powered with a turbo charged engine have absolutely no turbo lag in the first two gears, when the same car has turbo lag in the other gears?

What's the weight of the two engines?

If from Bimal airport road what time did you take the test drive? I was waiting in bus stop next to Bimal around 12 noon and saw a gentleman taking out SX4 Zdi demo car out for test drive.
Also any idea what is the OTR for ZDi in Bangalore?

Re: SX4 Diesel - Is it on the cards? Update: Now launched

@ klub class
I had driven Indigo Marina before and find a initial turbo lag. Compared to indigo marina, there is no initual lag. also, 'light' meants nimble to drive with respest to fedback from the steering wheel, and not from the weight of engine perspective.

@ mpksuhad, i testdrove at Bimal Mahadevapura. I waited for 15 minutes.

@ rajeshK, what is the indicated waitlist at Mandovi?

Re: SX4 Diesel - Is it on the cards? Update: Now launched

Any idea what is a super turbo? I tried googling it and could not find an answer. How does this differ from a regular turbo? VG maybe?

Cheers!

It's the marketing keyword used by Maruti. The Maruti SX4 has a VGT.

Re: SX4 Diesel - Is it on the cards? Update: Now launched

Well this car is going to be a winner for MSIL in this segment provided the delivery schedule is short. But an average Indian buyer will still wait for a diesel Maruti car even if the waiting period is 6 months! The VW Vento diesel also has a huge backlog. This should surely favour MSIL.

IMO, Ford and Hyundai will be more hit because of this launch. They will have to spice up their diesel cars quickly to counter the SX4 D.

The ads which MSIL has put for the SX4 is really nice (with the women just waiting and by the looks of it not exactly complaining!!)

Re: SX4 Diesel - Is it on the cards? Update: Now launched

+1 Klub Class

It's a marketing gimmick, the super turbo will take the prices to astronomical levels, it is indeed the VGT.

No offence here, but when will MSIL improve; they keep people guessing on what is in the offering.

MSIL do not have diesel technology, leave aside super turbo charged engine. It's a pity how mincing with a few words would have had more than a handful of people buying into the car even as we speak.

My take here: MSIL please stop befooling people.

Happy Motoring !!
