I swear. There is a limit to which every manufacturer can flog the same tiny engine in the country.

It may be a very good engine, but at the end of the day there is NO replacement for displacement and so the bigger cars NEED bigger engines. The Linea is crying out for one.

If Maruti would have introduced a SX4 D a long time back, FIAT would be getting their Royalty Part and they would have concentrated more on that. Unfortunately neither GM nor Suzuki could bring the MJD VGT sooner than FIAT which FIAT found as a 'Granted oppurtunity' and FIAT plonked the same in LINEA. Even Fiat would be quite astonished to see the initial response for LINEA.

But Fiat truly fears the invasion of SX4 with their own MJD 120 and thats the reason why they have started testing Lineas with 1.6MJD(Got the info from tbhp) which excells 1.9MJD in many aspects.

More speculation

Guys,

That's just rumor's about the engine block on SX4, but surely maruti will have a diesel variant, but the engine unless specified by the company is a speculation. I will wait for the press release...

But I agree with Steeriod below.

But instead of hanging around with the 1.3 liter engine Maruti should plonk in the 1.9, slightly remap it and hurray we have a stonker. At least they should bring 1.9 with 100 bhp.

@ silverknight:If SX4 comes with 1.9,it would rather burn our pockets for the on road price of the vehicle, with less Bhp.its better if sx4 marries 1.6L with 100+hp (to beat verna) and the price also can be kept low.

Jagadish kattar is a wise man, he know the pulse of Indian cust.

Absolutely right, but, the only issue is: he is no longer associated with MS.

1.6L is relatively new (1.9 was there for ages, right from the 1st gen CRDI or JTD in fiat's termiology) and it had it's own advantages over 1.9, hence from a price point of view it will be cotslier that 1.9
anyway let's wait and see what's under the hood!

Actually, for the longest time he was against diesel engines. He changed his mind at the fag end of his career at Maruti.

1.6 MJD is solely built on FIAT initiatives and so MARUTI/ SUZUKI cannot build or use the same without the license from FIAT. Right now, FIAT reserves the 1.6 for its brands and car "ONLY". So getting 1.6 MJD seems to be distant reality for MARUTI.

Look at the number of fiat fans on this thread! What are you guys so worried about? No one is stealing your precious 1.6JTD

Let's just wait for the car to be launched shall we?

Bhargava isn't the new guy. He's even older than Jagdish Khattar.
Originally an IAS deputee in MUL (just like JK), he was the Company's MD for a lon-long time. He is currently the Company's Chairman, the MD being a Japanese.

Why doesn't MUL launch the SX4 mini-SUV in India? There's a gaping hole in MUL's SUV line up with Rs. 5 lac Gypsy at one end and Rs. 15 lac Grand Vitara at the other. Diesel SX4 hatch at 8-10 lacs would fill up that void perfectly. I don't think they'll need to invest much in plant and machinery with most parts being common between the sedan and the hatch. If Swift must be complemented by Desire, let SX4 SUV complement the sedan.

Why suzuki needs 1.6 mjd from fiat ? they are masters in diesel engines winning awards for renaming it as DDIS.
Fiat will be laughing stock if suzuki launches technically superior 1.6 DDIS (sick) SX4.
