The new Megane, the third-generation model, will be produced at Renault-Nissan’s facility outside Chennai. The Megane will be sold across India through existing Mahindra-Renault dealerships, but whether the car will be branded a Mahindra-Renault remains or just a Renault remains to be seen.

The Megane has a range of powertrain options, which include both diesel and petrol engines, mated to either five- or six-speed manual transmissions, or a CVT. A more powerful version of the same 1.5-litre dCi diesel (code: K9), which also powers the Logan, is expected to be the base engine. This unit produces 85bhp, with another iteration producing 105bhp. There is also a 2.0-litre dCi unit putting out a healthy 130bhp and 30.6kgm of torque.
Petrol engine options include a 1.6-litre 110bhp unit, a 2.0-litre 140bhp, and a turbocharged 1.4-litre producing 130bhp and 19.3kgm of torque.

Detail News at :: AUTOCAR INDIA - CAR AND BIKE MAGAZINE ::

I am happy that Renault is bringing in their latest model instead of an old one like the Logan.

I am not sure about this news. This Renault model is not coming to India anytime soon. There have been news about many cars coming to India reported by ACI( Autocar India ) and OD ( Overdrive ). Moreover this is a latest launch, so it will take atleast a couple of years before this car hit the streets with good local content say 75%. Another problem Renault will face is image. They have Logan as a product of Renault and not Dacia and Logan is not in the premium product league, say like a Honda City. So Megane will have to be priced accordingly.
A sedan version will be only option for India as large hatches dont see much success from a manufacturer present in lower band of the market. Fabia is able to atleast notch some sales because of premium image Skoda has. Renault lacks the same image due to Logan. It would be nice to see this car in India, but pricing will finally make or bread the deal. Fiat Grande Punto sedan version is almost on the similar size and in same market segment is yet to make its appearance in India, despite Fiat being present in India since long.

I have my doubts about ACI's predictions. They will write whatever to put on their cover.

Renault Symbol is their new sedan for BRIC markets that will be positioned one segment above the Logan.

Renault generally make and sell quite good cars.

Why are they doing a Fiat India on themselves ??
