Please put a decent security system promptly and nothing to beat the manual gear lock/ steering lock.

my steering lock was stolen from my open gypsy a few years ago from VT (CST). Car wasn't. i stopped taking my gypsy to that area from then on.
they are not all that effective.
the design of the keys on them is very generic and easily picked.
i know many cars being jacked inspite of these contraptions being used.

yes they can picked, but as per studies on these, they act as deterrent for thieves and it takes time to break them and a thief does not want to spend more than 2-3 minutes in his efforts.

Thats exactly what he we were discussing, along with other systems. I have pointed him to a few threads on the forum.

I guess that is true (also depending on quality of the lock) -- but as dadu says it does serve as a deterrent.

The car was recovered in good condition, only one door lock had been damaged.

And to correct my last post -- it was spotted near bhandup by a friend of one of Byram's employees, not found directly by the cops!

cheers,
R

Glad to know there was not much damage.

Probably the thief came to know about this thread and gave up hopes of eloping with the vehicle

Good to hear the vehicle is okay, gets me thinking of putting an alarm system in my car. Scary seeing a yellow Pajero getting stolen!

Great news, R. Any clues on why it was abandoned especially with its 92-liter diesel tank ?!

Good chance that you came back just as they were about to run off with your Gypsy. I remember a time that someone messed with the steering grip lock on my Jeep by putting chewing gum + matchsticks in the keyhole (way back in college. Primary suspect = Girl's ex-boyfriend ). I had to get a hold of a couple of mechanics from Santacruz in the middle of the night. And despite their pulling, shoving etc., they weren't able to free the steering. Finally, a welder had to cut the lock.

Good to hear that Byram got back his Pajero. He must have had some Dussera celebrations.

My car was parked there for the better part of ten hours. It was more as if the thief was taunting me saying "you can secure all you want but you'll never be safe!!!"
