TATA NANO to be launched on December 28, during Ratan Tata's birth day

yes, its true.

many internal sources from tata motors and some venders who supply components to nano have confirmed this news.
initially, only the standard non-AC model will be unveiled from Pune and Pantnagar plants.
Deluxe and premium models to come in Jan-Feb 2009.

10,000 cars are planned on initial phase.

a news channel, I heard was supposed to cover this khabar tonight. does anyone know which one?

At least now we have some confirmed news. IMHO, they are late, but with little or no competition, its just fine.

However, why only non A/C models first. This means that whenever the owner of non-A/C Nano installs A/C, he will have to replace the ECM as Nano is fuel injected car, right ?
Also I think this is because of the relocation problem that A/C version is not available intially and technically, the A/C is working fine in Nano, but Tata is not able to make it available in december 2008.

Great news.

Yes, I too heard on news today, Tata would be trying to start deliveries of Nano on 28th. Dec. ie. on Ratan Tata's birthday.

The news further stated that. Indica's deliveries around a decade back were also started on Tata's birthday.

That's some good news.
People waiting for the nano atleast have a time frame now as to how long they will have to wait.

i also heard it that tata will make special dealership's exclusive for the nano.
Any confirmation on the same?

28th December 2008 also marks 10 years of existence of the Tata Motors Passenger Car division.
Would be a perfect date for the launch. (hmmm - I wonder if Tata Motors has any other 'anniversary editions' planned)

ECM will need no change, for the ECM the car always runs without the AC switched "ON", the ECM is oblivious to the A/C fitment.

The TOI has even reported that Tata Indica was launched 10 years back on Ratan Tata's birthday.

I think they will launch non-AC first simply because they want to stick to their price commitment of 1 lakh for at least the frst batch of cars.
I am sure there will be more 'value added' variants of the car coming later.

Yup, around the same time. And exactly 10 years since the Indicas launch. Isn't it amazing to see a CEO who thinks from the heart too? Considering the fact that they had to relocate a near-complete plant from WB to Gujarat, the Nanos rollout in December is commendable.
