yesterday i got a chance to have a look at new ford ikon. It really looks impressive. It does remind me of old escort but still it is way better than other cars in its segment like hyundai accent. The beige interior looks good however i wasnt convinced with the leg space for rear seats. Ford Fiesta engine is tried and tested hence no problem there.

Will get the test drive next weekend. All in All good car in its segment. If test drive is successfull, I would definitely be going for it even though i am not so happ with the overall looks i must say. It left me begging for more. They should have done more justice to its look i guess.

Response is pretty good, happened to visit the Ford showroom in Coimbatore, had quite a crowd wanting to look at the car, didnt get a TD though. The OTR works to 5.8L which is just 5k above the Swift VDi, IMO its a steal at this price. I guess the beige interiors would need a lot more maintenance and care, the new car had hand imprints on the door trims

Enquied about the 1.6TDCi and the salesman gave a blank look. My guess, the Fiesta 1.4 may be discontinued to make way for the more powerful 1.6 to counter the threat of Linea.

Both the times i went to the showroom, there was an appreciable crowd who had come to check out the car. How many of these translated to bookings we can only fathom a guess, but Condor was told by the sales staff from Lathangi that they had about 70 bookings or so. How true, we dont know.

I am sure that they must have managed to convert at least some of those who booked and are in the endless waitlist for the Dzire.

Now I wonder if they could sell the Ikon with the 1.6 Duratec petrol too that would be a hot car.

If they do, we already have danlalan on the forum who would line up for buying it. However, i doubt if they would do that.

Going by this, it would be better if ford also doesnt end up having a high waiting period. Presently, i was told the waiting period is about 10- 15 days.

I finally happened to see the ford ikon new in flesh and blood. The front lamps look very nice, and i could not TD it though. Inside is spacious, but after sitting in swift, this car felt extremely low and buckety as far as the seats were concerned.

there was also a limited edition fiesta with abs/airbags, blue in colour and some other frills.

Yup. It could be a great car, if they did it. Just the same engine as the Fiesta. But I doubt if Ford will ever do it, because it may affect Fiesta sales. But it will surely attract some Swift fans as well.

Hey Guys, how comprehensive is the TMP offered by Ford? I still hear people telling me that ford may stop the ikon very soon and hence, its better if i look for a recently launched car like the swift / dezire / i10 or the soon to be launched i20...?

Is ford ikon still worth buying?

For the price, it's a heck of a buy. However, as with all cars, test it yourself to gauge whether it meets what you are looking for. I'd pick the Ikon TDCi anyday over the Indigo that we bought not-so-far back.

Nope, I don't think Ford is going to discontinue the Ikon anytime soon. They just gave it a new engine + facelift and this value-priced diesel is crucial to giving them some volumes.

and I must add, it has shown quite decent volumes in November (though it was on sale, only half the month types) - so go ahead and buy. I would have, had it come a month earlier!

Re: New Ford Ikon TDCi brochure!

hi all

sorry to wake up a dead thread.

I wanted to know if the ford Ikon is better handling car when compared to the fiesta classic today.

Say if i'm going to the used car market and looking for a fiesta classic or the ford ikon in petrol or diesel, should have not clocked more than 20000km, which car should i prefer?

I am looking for a pure drivers car, fun to drive on the highways, it will not be used much in the city. not more than 6000km per year usage.

If at all you get an Ikon it would be quite old and creaky. Getting one which has clocked only 20k Kms would be highly unlikely unless of course it is a doctored mileage vehicle. Instead go and buy an used Fiesta TDCi.
