My guess is that this will surely trouble Logan and bring down its sales further. Also people might go for this one as DeZire has ridiculous waiting periods. Expect the diesel to be reasonable success.

Also: Where does this leave Fusion TDCi? Its priced higher than this, right?

Very attractice pricing.

Now Ford will have to convince the buyers on the 2 lakh premium on Fiesta 1.4 TDCi EXi version over the Ikon 1.4 TDCi. With the same platform & drivetrain, does it justify a premium of 2 lakhs just for the latest design, and some goodies in the interior?????

Ford should have simultaeously launched Fiesta 1.6 TDCi, but some people never learn, right :(

One can safely assume it would be more fuel-efficient than the Fiesta TDCi, as the unladen weight is lower for the Ikon. Who knows? We may see some mileage marathon ad campains soon.

There are no mention of variants! Maybe a clever marketing strategy to introduce higher spec models (with ABS etc) and increse the price in the process later on

The road tax is highest in Karnataka which is 14% as of today. So for a car like a verna crdi(base model), we end up paying over a lac as road tax
Still the roads are poor.

There will be only one model each for petrol and diesel. If this clicks, we can expect ABS and the goodies later. I dont know what stops them from offering ABS and Airbags as options. They can deliver against order only. Maybe they still want to keep the Fiesta attractive and push Ikon for upgraders from small cars on a budget.

Sorry, couldnt resist this... we can look forward to see the Ikon mileage campaigns done on the MMSC tracks with no seats, no stepney tyre, no dashboard, few missing body panels, no fuel tank (fuel in bottles) etc and maybe no engine and gearbox and return 50kms/litre.

Ford is just fooling themselves with such campaigns.

Test drive

OK, so I called a dealer and they promptly arranged a test drive. Apparently only one variant in Ikon TDCi. I had a Fiesta before, replaced it with a Scorpio last year.

Having never tried Ikon before, first impressions: driver seat appeared to be cramped up - I am 6'1 and it was a bit of an effort to get in. Noise levels appeared to be lower than Fiesta, but again, I drove within the city, for about 20 mins or so. Engine seems a bit quieter, more powerful - probably because Ikon is lighter / smaller than Fiesta (same engine used here apparently). Brake was a bit hard, it took a few tries to get it right - sales guy tells me it thats how it is on the Ikon. Gear shift appeared to be smoother compared to Fiesta.

Anyone else checked out ikon ?

The site dosent mention alloys as standard ...optional perhaps. Not sure how 13" wheels shall handle 1.4 diesel engine....

The driver's seat is actually a bother for tall people. With a non-adjustable steering for tilt, the only way about is to push the seat back.

Thanks for the clarification guys. 14% Road Tax is ridiculous!

BTW did you check out the Ford TVC in their website?

Ford - Ford Ikon TVC

Didn't like it

The waiting period on the Desire is just not acceptable too me, in fact any more than 7 days isnt. The ikon scores over here.
Also, people look for functionality/bang for the buck, old design/top speed/acceleration figures not being top notch dont really bother much.
As for spares, i've got a year and half experience with a flair and been seeing a relative's 1.6(over 4 years), been low maintainence.

The first pic reminds me of the FORD Escort from some reason!
The grill is so out of place.

A crdi diesel sedan which is a little cheaper than the Swift Vdi is a positive thing.
The engine may be a little low on power comparatively, but the lower kerb weight (1006 Vs 1075 of the swift) would nearly make up for it.

Being a whole segment bigger than the Swift, technically this car should sell well. Lets see. Its a better VFM than a Maruti.

I am very pissed. I love my VDi to bits, but an ikon is an ikon is an ikon. Even though I loved the 1.6's looks, not this escortish one. And yes, that A.S.S and resale loss. but WTH,

Would've gladly settled for the 3-box, reliability, build of a Ford.

Just about a month too late :(

The only common point between the Fiesta and the Ikon is the engine.
The Platform is completely new if I am not mistaken. Also, the fiesta offers more comfort and better interiors, newer looks newer whatnot.
I definitely think it is worth it, though a 1.6 TDCi would be nice too!

The price on their website is 5.19L ex showroom Delhi.
