cmon, the Swift dezire Ldi (how I hate that name) is 557673.26 delhi ex showroom.

Now if Ford wants anyone to buy their ancient but great to drive car, they really cant price it above that can they?

I`m not even taking the higher versions coz the new Ikon would hardly have any of those bells and whistles.

I think that there are only three things going for the Ikon:
  1. Looks better than the Pig Ugly Dezire
  2. Better rear seat space
  3. More fun to drive

However, point1 is taken care of by its ages ago basic design.

And dont forget the horrendous quality and cost of Ford service vis-a-vis the Maruti efficiency juggernaut!

So there, the only thing it can really hope to sell on, is the P word.

I personally like this car. I have a 2007 Ikon Flair and to say it is one of the best to drive i just love it. I have also driven Swift petrol but comparatively Ikon is much better. Also spares maybe bit on higher side but this is not the car which is always in garage. If you take care of the car it will be a good maintenence free one. Touchwood for me it has been good so far. i just love this car. Good to see it is still alive.

Thats what they should do, but won't happen. Ford has never been too aggressive with the pricing. Seldon does any company match MUL prices so expect it to be more than Dzire

When we said 6.5 lacs it was the On Road price . If they can price if few k's below Dzire VDI model it would be a bonus too. That too with lesser wait period. You cant Expect 5 lacs ex showroom for the TDCI. Lets be realistic and expect around 5.75 lacs ex showroom .

@ eddy and karanraheja

I dont know if Ford will launch at the 5 L mark or not, but as I said, I dont think that it`s not gonna have many buyers if its pricier than the Dezire.

If the prices are comparable, then it just might attract 5 % of the Dzire buyers coz of the waiting periods.

Great Work as usual Sid!

Somehow, the front styling seems a bit awkward to me, I'm hoping it looks better in the flesh, the Fiesta with a similar bumper looks quite good to me.
I wonder if the Front bumper + headlights can be swapped onto the existing Ikon? As long as the brackets and mounts are the same should be possible right? I don't see any modification to the bonnet.

Agree on this.

debatable. DeZire is a fun to drive car - so i would consider both as equal.

And Here's what Maruti have:
  1. cheaper service/spares
  2. bigger boot
  3. better interiors
  4. Better Saftey/Comfort Features in Zxi (CC/ABS/Airbags)
In short Ikon diesel has to be priced reasonably lower than DeZire diesel to be successful.

Ford has skimped completely on development costs...again.

Agree with evo to quite an extent though great handling, decent rear space and a good engine is more than enough for majority of the car buying populace.

Now A.S.S and spares is a different story alltogether.

Fog lamps are a safety feature???

Condor has summed it up pretty well. There are people who complain its an old design, but if the got-kicked-in-the-behind looks such as that of the Dezire is what excites buyers, then its their choice.

Currently, the Ikon serves as an entry level sedan, and hence the expectations should be on par with that. Now, where was all the crying public when the Accent came as an Executive with great features such as a leather warped gear knob?!

One must appreciate what it offers to the segment it is targetted at, and not cry hoarse about anything and everything. Once again, i repeat the pricing is the key.

If this can offer the refinement and mileage of the Fiesta TDCi at a more affordable package, then it sure makes sense to me.

That apart, looks like they have gotten rid of all the black plastic trims on the exterior by having them body colored, which is actually good.
