hi BHPians
You must have noticed teaser ads for the Hyundai Tucson on TV yesterday during the F1 race. Does anybody have more info/feedback/drive experience on this?

thanks
Nitin

Just a basic amount of info.

The Tucson arrived at Trident Hyundai sometime in the last fortnight. One of the employees had taken it for a test drive and swore by the handling & torque. I would rather wait to arrive at my own opinion.

With the Fortuner set to arrive in the next couple of months in the same bracket with a 3.0 CRDI heart....why would *anyone* buy the Tucson?

Toyota already has a range of engines - 1.8 & 2 VVTi (P) and 2.4, 2.5 CRDI (diesel)...if they choose to be aggressive enough....the only person driving the tucson would be Mr. Subbu.

Toyota planning to roll out Fortuner - http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/...ow/1068706.cms

Yes, have been looking out for the Fortuner as well.. However:

- Toyota seems to be planning a Nov launch for it.. Hyundai have a June launch planned, I think
- Knowing Toyota's penchant of seeing themselves as a 'premium' brand in India they might just price it out of my reach

well, we have to wait and watch the exact specs they launch in India.. Price being equal, I agree that Toyota will sweep this segment of the market..

cheers

Hmmm... we compare two hypothetical cars (since neither has been launched) and write one off completely based on what we would like to see in the other...

Lets at least wait till they get to the market!

There was a news in todays ET that Toyota is going to launch Fortuner with a price tag of 10 lacs. I don't remember the date but it is with in this year.

Hi nitinbagh , even i am waiting for the Tucson since last 3 months and i ve got the good news with me . Its just a matter of few hours , yes Hyundai is launching its Tucson today itself , i.e. 6th of April 2005(as told to me by hyundai officials) .

Its should be priced anywhere between 13.5-14 lakhs and it is going to be available in Diesel engine, Crdi .

As for the Drive ,we ll ve to wait until it arrives in the showrooms but overall it has received lots and lots of good reviews across the globe(one of the main reasons why i am waiting) .

As for the fortuner , it promises to be a great SUV and the day it is going to arrive , it ll leave all its rivals in the dust, primarily coz of the badge and the looks, but the probs is that day is quite far away.
Toyota guys told me its either going to be launched in december 2005 or jan 2006 and the price would be more or less same as that of Tucson and Cr-v .

So for the guys, who cant wait that long(atleast i cant)Tucson seems to be the only choice .

The article in ET says a Oct-Nov launch for the Fortuner, and if they are to be beleived at all, the price quoted is around 10l (which it seems is quite not possible)

But even if they offer the CRDI 3.0l for around 12-13 lacs, I guess it will kill the competition. Definately worth the wait...

Their previous one, I forgot the name, was so massive and great looking.

1. Thank you.

2. I think Toyota might price their product ABOVE the CRV, since they've always claimed a premium over the Honda brand. So we might have 3 soft-roaders in the price band between 11 and 14 lakhs, I was hoping Hyundai would peg theirs at 10 lakhs.

My initial driving impression of the Tucson is quite good.I will however wait till a proper long term test drive before commenting on the vehicle. We expect it to be a VFM model in it's category.Let's see...........

it's being launched in hyd on 15th
one of my cousins might be the first one in the city to pick it up,dunno yet
he just called me now

official site

Its priced at 14.3 Lacs.... The site just got up. 2L Crdi generating 112 Bhp and 25kgm of Torque... apparently has ABS and airbags.

As expected ,Hyundai has finally launched its Tucson at 14.3 lacs (ex showroom, delhi) .

Personally i think the price tag is little high . we all expected it to be a lakh cheaper than Cr-v . But lets see whether it really is worth it .

As for me , i am too curious to take the test drive of Tucson , hopefully i ll take it tomorrow .

Has any one of you seen it running on road yet , what about its looks and all ?

Thanx.
