I havent sat in the best but the worst are these 2
Esteem, Getz. Esteem as the ride is bumpy and getz as there is absolutely no leg space and OOps i forgot Swift!! I do get backaches after sitting in this plus claustrophobic!!
Comfort wise with ride quality i found indica to be good and sitting posture wise without a drive sonata was brilliant. Well sat in a showroom so no drive

Under 10 lakhs, surprisingly, very few cars still match the Ambassador for rear bench comfort. What a sofa of a seat! High perched & great ride quality too.

The Safari, Indigo (including the XL) & Indica are pretty much the leaders from their respective segments. Other sub-10 lakh cars that I'd like being chauffeur-driven in are the Ikon (superbly contoured rear seat), Logan, Gen II Honda City (NHC), Verna and Corolla.

MUVS : The Innova. Helped also by the fact that the middle row is recline-adjustable. In the D segment, nothing touches the Accords back seat followed by the Sonata Embera and the Nissan Teana.

The worst possible backseats are from most Jap hatches (800, Alto etc. etc.), Santros, all Mahindras and even cars like the Fiesta, Civic & Endeavour. Yesterdays low slung sedans like the Esteem, OHC (Mom hates the Vtec) and Accent score badly too.

Germans this side of the E-Class SUCK in rear seat comfort. That includes the Octavia, Laura, C Class, 3 Series, A4 and Passat. Though the C & A4 are better than the 3, they still aren't a match for cheaper cars like the Accord, Teana or Superb.

Best ride : S-Class. You really haven't experienced comfort until you cruise around in an S-Class. It is not just the fully adjustable rear seat or the air-suspensions ride quality. The massive space, sheer refinement and interior quality take the S to another level in luxury.

Best Rear seat ride I ever Had were:
Hatch Back: Indica Worst: ALTO
Sedan: Peugeot 309 GLD/Ford Ikon Worst: Esteem
Premium Sedan: Toyota Camry(Previous Model) Worst: N/A

Must have a mention of the Premier 118 NE which I recall had one of the most sacious and comfortable rear seats among the old generation sedans. Felt it was better than even the Contessa which had seats which were too low.

Since the thread starter asked the question of Rear-Middle row Seating comfort, must mention that cars with a centre arm rest at the rear are quite uncomfortable for the rear middle seat passenger.
Best I felt, of the lot was Logan for its wide seats that accomodates 3 full sized adults easily.

UVA: One of the best in its class. I have travelled long distances and upto 6-8 hours and so have my parents and we found it very comfortable.
Definitely way better than the Swift

The absolute worst I have experienced (other than hatches) is the Octy. My God it kills you. Civic fares better. Altis is a bit more better. Innova is great. Amby with headrests is supreme.

I'm tall (6'3"), so I have little options.

The worst would be the m800 ... if you like to bounce around then its a different story!

Verna is definitely better, the octavia the best in my opinion.

Best rear seat comfort as a whole (body roll, space, ride quality, safe feeling) is Innova. Nothing can beat it. Next comes Safari for its best ride quality even in worst roads which beats Innova by huge margin.

In Sedans I liked Logan's rear seats very good for sure. Then comes Indigo XL.

In Hatchback I liked Spark and Matiz's rear seat, the best one only drawback is less shoulder room but its just fine for 2 adults and a kid in backseat.

Regards,

Ravi.

And the contessa too had awesome backseat comfort. One could not feel the car going over tram lines in Kolkata..

I can tell about Aveo. When I drive everyone who sits behind me tells, the rear seat comfort is horrible. When anyone drives, and I sit behind, the comfort is too horrible. So the rear seat comfort behind the driven seat is based on how tall the driver is. It varies or will appear same in all the cars. I am 6'2" tall.
