Honda has officially commenced assembly of its long-awaited FCX Clarity green vehicle. Powered by an advanced hydrogen fuel cell system, the car's production will be limited to just a few dozens of units per year. Only 200 cars will be built within the next three years.Honda FCX Clarity, company says in its press release, will be the first fuel cell car officially certified for regular commercial use in the United States and will also be the first such vehicle available for the general public.
The hydrogen-powered fuel cells produce electricity that powers an electric motor, which in its turn motivates the drive wheels. The car will travel about 280 miles on a single fill, which is about 40 per cent better than the most advanced of today's electric vehicles may provide. Although you don't need a private hydrogen pumping station to fill your EV, right?
Just like it was with the EV-1, you will not be able to actually buy Honda FCX Clarity, rather you will have to lease it from Honda at an impressive price of $600 per month, including maintenance fees and collision insurance.
