When I was hurtling down from Shamshabad Airport (Hyd) to the city in a Meru Cab Logan at an effortless 145 kmph. Rock solid. Superb stability. Quick. I was really impressed.

There will be a 1.4 litre 95 bhp petrol engine version but the dates are not confirmed ie whether it will be launched simultaneously with the diesel or early next year. There is also a 1.4 litre 120 bhp petrol which is speculated to be launched later next year.

The Linea, internationally is available in two petrol engine variants – namely - a 77 bHp, 8v, 1368cc engine known as 1.4 Fire and a 120 bHp, 16v, 1368cc turbocharged engine from their new T-JET family known as 1.4 16 V T-Jet.

If an article published in the Autocar India December’2008 issue and on their Website is to be believed, then it seems that the petrol variant slated for the Indian market will sport a 95bHp, 16v, 1368cc twin-cam engine that actually does duty in the Grande Punto as sold in Turkey.

Personally, I will buy the Linea only if it sports the 1.4 16 V T-Jet engine and see this move by FIAT India, clearly as yet another international car Company shortchanging the Indian consumer. Whereas FIAT have probably been nice enough to offer us more power than the 1.4 Fire engine, clearly the proposed 95bHp, 16v, 1368cc twin-cam engine will be inadequate for the Linea given its size and weight. There have been rumours floating around of a Linea launch sporting a 1.4 16 V T-Jet engine sometime later – but hey! haven’t we waited long enough for the Linea to have it all and to have it all together?

I will restrict the bickering to just this much as the car isn’t officially launched as yet so there is still hope for a 1.4 16 V T-Jet engine but without that engine a Petrol Linea aficionado like me will simply have to consider something else, perhaps even the Honda City’2008, which is a delight to drive with its added power over the older version.

now

we have gone from this to this - Just hope the "soon" is soon enough

T-Jet doesn't seem to be in the pipeline at least for next 6 months, going by whatever FIAT has announced as far as the engines are concerned.

That pretty much confirms the rumors of the delay. But lets hope at least January 2nd is the final date.

The Petrol version will be launched only by mid-2009. Its only the MJD thats going to be launched now.

Himan, the merucab drivers are the same breed who take NA indicas to 110+ so plonk them in a MJD and you'll be surprised

which says Logan D can do a 145. Doesn't say it can beat the Linea. that would be an assumption - as 0-100 & top speed of Logan is less compared to Linea.

I find it amusing that we start comparing the car even before it hits the road. Another thing is the 0 - 100 measurement. How often is an average person going to do a 0 - 100 sprint? That too in city traffic Unless the person has a strong inclination to do a bumper hit test.

I am going to wait until the car is released and drive it myself before i decide.

Bye Bye Fiat. Bye Bye Linea.

That is it. This company is not willing to sell cars. I was ready to book on the first day itself. I have decided not to buy the Linea as I'm really disappointed with their launch tactics. However, I will buy it when they launch the 120 bhp T-jet or some other powerful engine in Emotion+ variant later. Till that time, bye bye Fiat and bye bye linea.
