Indica has its own set of problems but that is the case for every other model. True, I always wondered about the bad-mouthing it got.

Vista is entirely different car, can compete easily with Swift and the like.

My thinking is, if it isnt for Tata with Indica and Vista, other car makers might have easily sold their products at higher prices.

You have clocked some serious figures on all your vehicles. The max distance ever clocked by any of our cars was 65000kms by a 1987 Premier Padmini.

Too puny in comparison to all the figures on this thread

Unbelievable ....
The figure turns out to be ~130Km/day (calculated for 8 years)
I'm interested to know the everyday running of this Bullet.

The Camper was still running good, as far as I know. A fact is, in all these years and for all these lakhs of kilometres, I have not touched gearbox or differential. The only care I took was to change gear oil every 40 k kilometres.

Irony is, I still get treated as a novice/naive here

re: Highest reading on the odometer!

135,000 on a TCIC Safari 2005 4x4

Major Issues so far:
1) Brake booster replaced - ~ 70,000 KM
2) Fuel pump service - ~ 134,500 KM
3) Injector cleaned - ~ 130,000 KM
4) Gearbox reverse mechanism change from top left shift to bottom right shift
5) Steering overhaul - ~ 130,000 KM
- Had slight issues with reverse. Nothing major.
Nothing really major on engine and gearbox
Now the electricals
5) Windows/AC conked off. Repaired. Repeat.
6) 4wd electronic shift has a mind of its own. Works randomly. Doesn't even answer to prayers at time . At the same time, never needed to ask for help. It's gotten out of trouble on it's own!

Am happy with the Safari. Still on its original clutch plate!
Waiting for the Storme to replace it!

Wow. I'm curious. What was the expense for the reverse mechanism change? How many kms did you run after this change? Did you get it done at T.A.S.S? Do you feel any difference with respect to the ease in the gear-shift (tightness/sound) ?

Thanks in advance.

Its actually a simple change and done long back. Maybe in the 80 90 k period. Hassle free so far and cost around 4k iirc. As the gearbox is the same, G76, we just changed the three shafts inside the gearbox. Got it done with my regular mechanic.

I checked the odometer reading of the B7R Volvo Bus I took yesterday to go to Nasik. It read 744.537,3 km

re: Highest reading on the odometer!

1,59,464 km before it was sold, on our 2001 Ford Ikon 1.6 Zxi. There was only one issue other than those which were routine/age related: The car used to have a mind of its own, it started only when it wanted to. The issue cropped up after 60k km and the ignition unit was changed twice but still the problem persisted. Recently I came to know that Ford has still not been able to figure that out; my uncle's Fiesta after doing 18k km has started throwing up the same tantrum!!

So that voids the warranty?

Lol no warranty in the first place. Safari was already 5 years old by then! And I trust my regular mechanic more than any TASS.

Hi adi,
i sold my safari lx of 2004 model with 105500km on the odo, when i realized i was en route to change everything in the vehicle, other than the body and seats.
It was fun anyway , i am quite knowledgeable now in the mechanical dept thanks to the many interactions with my trusted mechanic.

One goa cabbie , private maruti van low roof military green color, the types that ply goa tourist spots, this dude's vehicle had done 900000km on the original engine. it was about 8 yrs old.
I was surprised , but he dint appear as if he was cowcrappping.
It was very well maintained and he was driving absolutely spiritedly in those narrow winding ghat sections from airport to south goa.
BTW it was still on petrol as goa was converting to LPG much before that.

i also know a tourist Logan ( petrol)running on CNG with 434000 KM IN MUMBAI. AND THIS WAS ATLEAST 2 months back. and the engine was in terrific condition.
