Height of Toyotas el-cheapo nature? Selling the Corolla with tube-type tyres in India

However, that was yesterday. I think Toyota India has made amends with the fantastic trim level in the Altis. It even makes the Civic look stripped down!

ABS is available but only in thr top model 'V', and I strongly agree with Sowmya's point

just to refresh you all, around a decade back, even seat belt was available only in the top models, until made mandatory

so, it is more importantly for the law makers to wake-up

I have more sympathy for truck drivers, who sit in those furnance like cabin and drive 24x7 without power steering and AC or any securuty features, and get no respect from anyone either (instead abuses)

that's the reason why they behave the way they behave,

i hope you see my point

Head unit is not necessary, coz most of us upgrade and do custom installations.

Something off the topic, I wonder how big the turning radius would be for Altis. For civic its 5.5m...

These owners will find it hard to take the U-turn.

@ ritz: that is applicable for some like us buddy, we are ready for these custom installations. but there are many out there who wish everything in their car should be factory fitted. they dont even fit wheelcaps from outside.
if you tell them, you have to get HU and mudflaps fitted from outside, they wont prefer it.

I am one of those.I literally feel like crying when I see this so called after market accessories specialists rip apart my car.

Surely the A.S.S. people do the same? They can't teleport stuff inside, can they?

Besides, most of the time, aftermarket people are much more careful than the official guys because you are allowed to watch them work where it is incredibly tough to get the official people to allow you to watch them work.

I have basic common sense to know that the A.S.S people cant teleport stuff inside.I am not even intrested in the A.S.S people to fiddle around with my car.All I need is Factory fit.IMHO all companies should atleast give an option to customers to fit the accessories at parent plant itself rather than at the stingy dealers.

best solution is a customized car. u give your specs to the dealer and it comes factory fitted as per your requirements!

I think for mid-segment cars I'd actually prefer to have my own choices on several accessories. Many of these cars which come with factory fitted stereos lack key features (Fiesta's head unit doesnt play mp3s, Civic's doesnt have an AUX-in, New City's cant even play CDs). Forget about bluetooth and iPod compatibility! Whereas, my cheap Swift came with a nice empty slot in the dash so I could go ahead and put in an excellent HU which has functionality that you dont see on any car cheaper than an entry level Merc/BMW.

I feel the same way about alloys and tyres as well. The factory fitted ones are too conservative with their wheel sizes and tyre width, and would you really want to drive a car that you couldnt tell apart from a hundred other cars on the road?

Of course there are some features that should come standard, because its impractical to get after-market fitments. ABS, airbags, electrically-adjustable mirrors, climate control... stuff like that you cant get fitted anywhere else. So if they're being stingy about such things then thats not good.

Kudos to Toyota for doing it their own way.

if one says that manyfacturers should not provide HUs as we can upgrade to better ones, i'll ask- we even upgrade our alloys and tyres, so they should not give even tyres and wheels with their cars, right?

the choice of upgrading is left to the customer, his car- his choice... but i feel every manufacturer should provide the basics in their car, especially considering the cost of the car and the target customer.

Kudos to Toyota for doing it their own way.
toyota does not even provide internally adjustable mirrors in the G4, forget electrical! you have to roll down the windows and adjust them!
no climate control is offered too! but i am not complaining as none of its competitors (scorpio and safari) offers this.
but when scorpio offers a HU with SD card, USB port and MP3 with steering controls whereas safari offers a DVD player with two screens, cant toyota offer a CD player atleast! ok, the DVD player is available in only top end safaris, but even the lower versions have CD players. even a swift and SX4 has cd players with steering controls.
