Honda India is surely making good profits already. Launching Jazz or any model in India is not going to help Honda Global to come back to profit. The sales in India, at the most a few thousands, are too less to have an impact on their bottom lines globally.

Honda is not under loss currently. Its easier for them to introduce smaller and hybrid cars abroad than start a new model in India.
Most manufacturers are holding back from investing in new facilities.
Honda small cars are cheap for Indian market and the numbers are also not that great for them.

Honda is also planning various other new cars for the Indian car market. I am not much sure which cars but I am sure that one sedan and SUV are in pipeline.

As Honda has steeply raised its City which is its main bread&butter will the intoduction of Jazz (again steeply priced) for premium hatch will make any significant change in its sales figures or is it going to lose its sales to other car makers

Is the Jazz price really worth to make a kill for it? or Honda is making a fool of all indians?

Honda to roll out JAZZ with Rs 7 lakh tag - Launch June 10

Jazz will sport a specially-tailored 1200cc VTEC petrol engine and will be the most expensive hatch in India. Honda will offer the car with features like airbag, ABS (anti-lock braking system) and G-CON Technology (an advanced passive shielding that offers the occupant a survival zone in case of an unavoidable collision).

Jazz @ 7 lacs Ex Factory

Jazz @ 7 lacs Ex-Factory means OTR would be 8.5 lacs.Considering the new new city is 9 lacs otr, there might be very few takers for this car. Also launching this car in slowdown is not a great idea.cheers,ac

If Honda's entry level car is priced so high (ex-showroom Delhi at 7L), not many poeple would be eager to buy the car, no matter how good the car is. Also, this segment already has some great VFM offerings, so to make an in-road, Honda should have priced it more aggressively! I doubt if Honda is going to have great sellings in this price range for Jazz, as people would be tempted to shell out a little extra for their entry sedan (ANHC)!

He He He.. there was an instance on the forum where a prospective Honda purchaser settled for a Swift and an Accent. I see the Jazz going the Fabia way. Hardly any on the streets. It will flop a big way. There are plenty of Indians who will go for an Accent/Ford Icon, Plus, a Nano if given a choice to throw away 7 L on a car, yes even in times of recession.

Averts Losses
• Honda’s earnings power is proving resilient. Management projects full FY2009
operating profit of ¥10 billion We think the fact the company expects to be above
break-even in its cautious initial projections can be seen as an undiluted
positive. Honda is reaping the benefits from the speed and diligence with which
it is matching its corporate structure to the changing business environment,
from its relatively low fixed cost ratio, and from its comparatively stable sales
volume. - honda.world.com

jazz may really not set the sale charts on fire. With its price tag of around 7 lacs, its appeal is going to be limited in a country where big is still beautiful. The car will be good as is expected of honda, but with so many options at this price range, i doubt if it will sell really well.
