Are hyundai planning to push the verna past the 10lakh barrier to compete with the likes of the optra magnum?
Why would they.
if they have a competitor at a lower price why would they make it reach 10 lakh.
I dont think 6 airbags would make it but would not be surprised if the Sunroof , Steering controls and made available considering i20 and i10 have sunroof and i20 has steering controls.

The 1st thing which verna needs is a good suspension.
Hated it, does not inspire confidence at high speeds.

I remember reading a post elsewhere on T-Bhp that honda has shelved plans of launching JAZZ due to the economic slow down... Is that really true ?

They better not do that and push Verna into Magnum zone and near limits of Civic / Altis and make disaster of the existing model. But knowing that Hyundai has always got the pricing wrong.... I wont be surprised to see Verna at 10.5L +.

Common Hyundai.. Verna (or Ascent) as US knows is the cheapest Sedan vehicle in US along with GM Chevy Aveo. And in India Hyundai asks for a premium for what?

Hyundai needs to realize that these are standard features now on a 8-9 L segment car and consumers would expect this. Thanks to SX4 and to a gr8 extent Linea for raising the standards.

I would try to mention the same here for Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla as well. Both these cars are considered a very economical sedan and there is nothing premium about it. But the same here are sold as a luxury sedans.
Both Civic and Corolla starts at $15000+ and has more features than what we get here

Yes. Agree with you but few factors contribute to it:
1. Car Manufacturers wanting to position these as luxury cars and get a premium
2. In US, car segment starts as Sedan - Mid Luxury; we start with Entry Cars/Hatchbacks - Premium Hatchbacks / Entry Sedans - Premium Sedans / Mid Luxury.
3. Governments unstopping thirst to put 'n' number of taxes on same components - import, excise, customs and so on eventually sales tax when we buy... road tax, octroi, , blah blah blah.

However the case be, Honda / Toyota charges 25-30% premium on cars. Knowing the cheap labour in India compared to US, high level of localizations.. they make huge profits per car

All the trouble we Indians go through is because of the Non-Capitalistic and Non-Socialistic, but a very confused, heavily subsidized, politically motivated policies. All the money we pay as taxes, road-tax,excise,cess on all the consumables is used for subsidizing the non-productive sectors and our politicians. I am going off-topic here.

While I agree with most points on the verna, when they can price the top end diesel at 9.43 lakhs and nearing ten in some cities like bangalore, without a single safety feature but the ABS, then Theyre bound to push it beyond 10 with airbags and all the other stuff. So what if they have competition from the fiesta? There are people who go for the verna just for the engine and because of the sales support of hyundai. So a good chance that people will still buy it inspite of it being overpriced. When you can pay 9lakhs wit out any spectacular features, many peoplw ould love to have that engine plus a whole lot of amazing features for another lakh or so.

Not new, but a face lifted one is rumored to be coming. But this being reported since a long time. May be the current market conditions are holding them back.

Im told that the scenario is very bleak abroad. Recession is hitting hard.
Jaguar is offering a 25%+ discount on their XF already in Germany, to be able to sell/promote the model over the competitions. Similarly all other car manufacturers are offering various discounts ranging from 15% to 30%!! Its a known fact that Mercedes sells their cars at a price 20%+ lower in the American markets than the EU. Just competition I guess.

Why in India should we have to pay a premium price for a new launch? And when will we see such discounts on published prices in india?

Saw Honda Jazz and Skoda Superb on NDTV show yesterday.
IMO Jazz will be the smartest looking hatch anyone has seen on Indian roads yet.
New Superb looks excellent, far better than previous one. Though the front is kinda BMWish.
