If you could go back in time, will you buy the same car ?

Hindsight provides new eyes --Wayne W. Dyer, You'll See It When You Believe It

So you have a car. You have owned it for quite some time. If it was possible to go back in time and make the decision again, would you buy the same car ? Why or Why not ?

I have had the pleasure of seeing three cars in my family:

1) 1993 Omni. Yes I would buy the same car. Served us well for 15 years. We had a family of 6 and this was the only car that could seat the entire family comfortably.

2) 2004 - Ford Ikon. No, in hidsight I would have bought either Baleno or the Accent. Not too happy with my Ikon experience.

3) 2007 - Swift VDI. Oh hell yes. No questions. I were to take that decision again, I would definitely buy

So guys, armed with wisdom that hindsight provides, will you buy the same car ?

Current 2009: WagonR 2007 Nov (City Purpose) & Indica Turbo 2007 Dec (Highway Cruising).

Backdated 2007: I would stick to WagonR for its sheer comfort in City driving. Would have purchased IndigoCS intead of Indica Turbo if the dealer would have shown me the car. Also i was unaware of this model till feb 2008.

Nice thread EDDY

Here is how i feel...

HH Splendour 1996 ( sold in 2005, 86000kms, Top speed achieved - 101kmph, FE - 75kmpl ) ::: Would have bought it for sure, i served me so well, it was hard to part ways with her.

Maruti Esteem 1999 ( sold in 2006, 80000kms, Top speed achieved - 146kmph, FE - 13kmpl ) ::: Would not have bought it, would have looked at an Accent or Ikon instead, reason didnt felt safe enough inside it.

Maruti Wagon R 2003 ( sold in 2007, 46000kms, Top speed achieved - 142kmph, FE - 14kmpl ) ::: Would have bought it again, it had this amazing stability on road even though it had that vary tall boy look.

Chevy Aveo 2006 ( currently owning, 19000kms, Top speed achieved - 163kmph, FE - 12kmpl ) ::: Would have bought it for sure.

Chevy Spark 2007 ( sold in 2008, 17000kms, Top speed achieved - 141kmph, FE - 16kmpl ) ::: A very cute car, loved it like anything, looks like a small car but at wheel feels like a SUV. Had to sell it off as my fuel bills were hurting me badly that was not because of her, but the distances I have to travel in a day. Would not have sold it, if i would had been able to afford the fuel bill of 12000rs per/month.

Fiat Palio MJD 2008 ( currently owning, 5600kms, Top speed - 133kmph, FE - 21kmpl ) ::: For very very sure, would buy this one with closed eyes, its so stable on the road, i just love the Palios drive.

Cheers.

19xx Suzuki Shogun : Yes. Among the best bikes ever produced. Great to drive with good looks and very sporty instrument cluster too.

19xx Daewoo Matiz: Yes. Even today I rate it as the most comfortable car I ever sat in. All I would do is just plonk myself in the driver's seat and I was right there. Great to drive though it did get a bit out of breath with A/c running but at that time it was a nice peppy car to drive.

2003 Fiat Palio S10: Yes, Yes, yes and YES!!

2007 Maruti-Suzuki SX4: NO!

2002 Ford iKon - YES YES YES !! At that point in time offered greater VFM than the OHC. Fully loaded with a snorter of an engine and a great handler too boot - it was and is a hoot to drive.

2004 Skoda Octavia vRS - Do I need to even say anything?

1996 M800 - YES. Fill it and forget it car. Fun to drive in city.
2004 WagonR - YES. Perfect car for the city, if only the gearshift was a "bit" better.
2003 SantroZipplus - YES. Same as WR, but if only the rear ride was less bouncy.

Yes to every car & bike I have had so far. Includes the Indica & Marina we have had for 4 years each.

I have made a mistake with the particular Padmini 137D I had pickecd up in 1998, but that was my decision. Not the car (model) itself.

2006 Ford Ikon Flair.

Considering economy alone for long drives, i may have opted for the Swift D, if it was available when i bought my car. Since it wasnt, i bought the car that appealed to me the most, which i could afford.

Chevvy Spark 1.0 LT, 2007. My first car. Very smooth and easy to drive in city traffic. Can easily cruise at 100 - 120 speed on highways. Doesn't give bumps on bad roads. Good and satisfactory FE.

I bought my Sparky in Oct 07 for 4.1 L when they offered discounts of 50 K and have not spent anything on maintenance. Great VFM.

Why go back in time, even today, If I were to be in the market, I will definitely go for Sparky

ESTEEM - 2004-2005 - could have avoided buying it because..

OHC - 2005- PRESENT - in less than a year moved to the OHC. so i could have exercised some restraint and avoided the ESTEEM. ended up losing a lot on resale because around 4/5 months after i bought, the new look ESTEEM was launched and all dealers conveniently "downgraded" the price of the old look ESTEEM

199x Ambassador Nova Diesel - NO!
1996 Tata Sumo - Maybe! Was quite reliable apart from the uneven tire wear issue.
1998 Tata Safari - NO!! Problems galore!
200? Ford Ikon 1.8 - No. Won't mind the 1.6 though.
2001 Mitsubishi Lancer 1.5. No. The game has moved on IMO.

2004 Hyundai Elantra CRDi - Possibly yes. Selling this was a mistake.
