Suzuki Swift on CNBC-TV18

Yesterday, Speed Autoshow, showed Suzuki swift from Singapore..

IMO, The car looked cute but pretty small..It looks smaller than Getz and has smaller boot as well. But the car is very stylish..and may be of the same external size as some small car.

The host said, the car will not have 60:40 split in the rear seats in the indian version and few other goodies also will be missing..

The car will debut with Esteem's 1.3 L engine..

Let us see how the team-bhp finds the car !!

Renuka also commented that the handling of the car is not up to the mark. It has a lower profile 15" tires for the Singapore version. But when it comes to India, it will definitely have a 80 profile 14". The handling will be worse than that I believe. Yes, it looked smaller than Getz, infact smaller than Palio also. But it looked very stylish.

Well, the realization is sinking in... I was wondering what would happen when you guys saw the car for real, going through the various posts that seemed very excited at the launch of this car.

It is a small car, and while it looks good there was always a question as to whether it would deliver to the expectations and the price.

A lot would depend on Maruti's pricing now. They should be able to keep that down thanks to the engine from the Esteem (also a former Swift!!!)

14 inch 80 profile is a bit much dont you think??..normally indian cars on 14 inch wheels have 65 or max 70 profile....if that is the config the ride will be pretty good...but the wheels & tire together will look pretty big.

I think maruthi will try to push the price even lower by offering 13" wheels with 80 profile ratio. the 14" wheels will most probably be available in the higher end version only.

as such all maruti small cars are cramped. was really hoping that the swift be a bit spacious and comfortable... got to wait and see i guess.

With reference to the latest issue of BSMotoring, the swift is as big as Getz. I don't remember everything, but it is said that, Swift is as long as Getz, 30 mm wider than Ford Fusion, little shorter to Getz. The article referred only to Getz and Fusion in comparison to Swift. This makes it clear to which category this car belongs. In the article it's even mentioned that the base version of Swift will priced sub 4 lacs(!!) which I dont think will ever happen. So, let's wait and watch.

Is it really smaller than the Getz?? Out of all the cars in the premium hatchback segment, the Fusion is surely the best looking. I saw one on the road yesterday and it looked like a mild SUV.

No, it is definately not smaller than Getz. Compared to the height of the Getz, the article says, Swift is shorter, and is wider than the Getz!

Looks are deceptive then. It looked very small to me yesterday in the CNBC Auto Show episode. I compared it with Palio because I own one. I probably can get a better idea when I see it in "flesh".

Suzuki Swift looks nice. Once swift is launched hyundai getz sales are going to dip. Getz is too expensive, I hope swift won't be priced over getz. I have a feeling swift is going to lead that segment once it is launched. Love to see a diesel also in the near future.

Swifts pricing would be pretty similar to Getz. As per my info it will be priced around 4.5 to 5 L bracket, which is not too distant from Getz. I dont think Maruti models are priced low, check the prices of Zen wrt to Santro & Indica, also the Alto 1.1 was costlier than the top end model of Santro at that time.

The baleno when launcehd was over priced. Am yet to see much of the Vitaras, dont know how it is priced, but if it was priced low, then we would have seen many of these as IMHO it looks better than most of the current SUVs.

Hmmm... I read an Australian review of the Swift that said it came with 185/65R15 tires in Australia. I'll try to lookup the review and post it here. Anyways, the 14" 80 profile equivalent of 185/65R15 would probably be 155/80R14. Which would mean great ride but awful handling

Ok, I could not find the original review but I found another one on MSN Carpoint Australia which gives the same tire size.

The point is that the Swift has larger than usual wheel arches (than most cars of the same size) so it can take 15" wheels as standard equipment without compromising the ride. But Maruti is not taking advantage of this in the Indian model (for cost reasons, I suppose) and giving us smaller wheels instead.

When I buy my Swift I'll go for 195/55R15 if I can do so without voiding the warranty.

I don't care about it's size. This is the first car from Maruti that I actualy WANT to own. If you want space get an Indica.
