Indian public has been waiting for fabia since 2004 ,though i dont think it will be launched this year but when its launched it will definitely shake up the midesize market and with skoda having such good reputaion in indian market i wont be a tough battle for skoda india.

I dont think Fabia will be launched anywhere in 2006, maybe mid 2007 is more realistic,...
and for the price quoted , not many people might go for that....
anyway, i had enquired at a Skoda dealer,.. they also confirmed it will be comming only in mid 2007....

Clearly the Fabia is still a long way off.....'some time in 2007' is what the officials have stated in the ET article. By which time there would be much more competition.

Obviously they have the get the price 'right' to win in this segment. As with the Octavia they cannot rip off customers with high cost of spares.

I had spotted a Fabia being test-driven by 2 Skoda employees in early 2006 in Aurangabad during one of my business visits there. It was solid blue, very dusty and had no camouflage. And it was a sedan, if I remeber properly. The suspension was "Indianized" too much I felt, with the car looking jacked up. It was driven near the Man Mandir junction heading back towards the 5-star MIDC where Skoda's factory is located.I think folks who are looking to own the Fabia for its racy looks will be misrepresented- IMO, after seeing it myself.
