heard latest news that, maruti 800 has sold only 6000+ cars in April,

there is a 38% drop in sales compared to march and YOY there is a 4% decline

Looks like maruti is in for some trouble..

what are your thoughts??

Could be attributed to either some supplier end problem, coupled with confusion over VAT and/or people simply opting for better options (Alto et all). Shall wait till full month's figures are published.

Revv

March sales are always higher on account of the year end - whether in the automotive sector or elsewhere. Therefore April sales always tend to look worse - nothing to worry about, since the sales guys generally take a break after the hectic year end.

I think you will find the same phenomenon across all manufacturers, and across all sectors whether manufacturing, services, consulting et al

Also,

it might be the case that people are waiting for Swift launch.. There usually are no offers in April and that is why sales will be cooler.

Nope, Swift customers are mostly not 800 customers. If Swift can eat into other car's pie, it would be Wagon-R and partially Zen.

hey guys,it seems we are about to get ripped off again in the swift by giving us the simple sohc 16v engine that the esteem has had since 1994,,(it was only switched from carb to mpfi in jan 2000,,to meet emission norms,,instead of giving some new engine ,,with the usual bogey of keeping costs down,,in another similiar related vein, today monday 02 may the Economic times has run an article on the last page showing the HYUNDAI ELANTRA,,as an entry level car in CHINA,,can this really be happening to us (getting ripped )on such a blatant scale

The Esteem engine is a good one - makes no sense to get a new engine just for the sake of being new.

As for the Elantra being an entry level car in China, remember that the Corolla is an entry level car in most countries too - it is what is called an 'entry level Compact Car'. The Lancer is a common taxi, the City is unknown outside Asia.

How a car is positioned in a country is a factor of the purchasing power. Lets face it - China's economy is years ahead of ours...

Look at the Alto sales...Maruti has been gradually reducing the prices between the two to effectively make the Alto its natural successor.
