In ET Today: 4th March

"We are ready with our new Accord V6 and it will be launched by next week," Honda Siel Cars
India President and CEO Masahiro Takedahawa told PTI.

The new Accord V6 would come with a 3.5 litre engine, generating 280 horsepower (hp), he added.

Asked how the car would be priced in the Indian market, Takedahawa said: "I cannot say it specifically now, but looking at the specifications of the car, I expect this to be priced at around Rs 25 lakh."

25L is way too steep for the v6. A few lakhs more and you're in the 3/c/a4 segment!

we are in 3-C-A4 segment you are correct on that.. but look at the engine.. its 3.5L V6. 3 or C or A4 in that price bracket come in 4 CYL engines.. if i am not wrong.

The only thing you are paying for in the bottom end models of the German makers is badge and rear wheel drive (the Audi A4 doesn't have even that). Seeing all the reliability problems with the things that set them apart (DSG anyone?) or even entire brands falling to pieces (C220), it isn't a rosy picture.

For me personally, the only German cars worth buying in India are the 5 series BMW (with the fantastic engines), the A4 3.2FSI, and finally, BMW M. For 25L, you get an indestructable car with more legroom than any of these German saloons in the 30+L bracket and a fantastic engine which will light your pants on fire. In that respect, it is a fantastic choice. Who knows, maybe Honda will open its purse a bit more and provide us some awesome kit as part of it.

I don't believe:

1. The 280 horsepower part (though we'd be only too happy)

2. Price tag of 25 lakhs.

Lets wait for the launch.

It will be 271 bhp to the max. Honda won't tune it furthur for India.
Price should be a max of 22 i suppose.

They are gonna increase the price of CRV by 30% and hence this at 22lac? Cant be. Wonder if they will ever bring it. Expecting it to be 25lac.

Power output is claimed to be 275PS.

I have driven the car, but cannot let any more details out until it is 12th march when the official launch will happen.

IMHO, even at 25L, the accord V6 is more VFM than the German lower end cars in the 30l range. Most have 4 cylinder engines, with lesser power, and have less room inside than the accord. And in terms of goodies i guess the accord matches up to any of them. Plus lesser service and maintenance cost (relatively), you have the best package with you.

The real question is : How much of a step up is it from the I-4? Direct comparisons will be made to the I-4 first.

The only way 25L is justifiable is if they load it with goodies like VCM, ESP, Xenons, full screen display and not the cheap small one now and driver seats with memory, steering mounted audio controls and everything automatic.
